1st, that study says that buproprion block the reuptake of serotonin... it does not..

2nd, both meth and cocaine cause extracellular release of dopamine, in addition to blocking the reuptake of dopamine... buproprion does not... it only blocks the reuptake...

I’m not naive on how these meds work.

look, i'm not going to get into a pissing contest, seems like you got enough to worry about... what i will say, as a pharmacist, a Buproprion prescribed patient, and a recovering drug addict, i can tell you 1000% that snorting, ingesting, etc Buproprion is not getting your daughter "high"... if taken with some other drug that does increase the amount of extracellular dopamine release, like cocaine, opiates, meth, hell, even caffeine, then yes, she would then feel "high" but it ain't the Bupropion, alone, that is getting her "high"

i don't need to... i know exactly how the drug acts and works in the body, and i know how the body physiologically responds to that chemical, and what the precise predicted response by the body is...

this is not a matter of opinion... it is a certifiable, 100% fact that buproprion has zero abuse potential in humans... ZERO

From the NIH. And once again it’s garbage and something really only a very last resort type thing but yeah people do it and you may rethink your 100% fact

Why is it regulated by the BOP?

likely b/c it's a synthetic cathinone, which is a chemical that is similar to ephedrine and other amphetamines.... so to be EXTRA careful, apparently, your state BOP has made it monitored... it's not in LA... i can't speak for KY

i agree, there is tons of support that it can, and does, cause seizures, by lowering the seizure threshold

what i will say, as a pharmacist,
you got any recommendations on a doctor that’s willing to write a script of 2mg Xanax?

Yea it gives the user a euphoric effect. It’s closely monitored in prisons as it’s been abused. Apparently it’s similar to cocaine or meth.

bullshite - Wellbutrin takes a while to build up and work, my doctor put me on it after my mom died.

I got no euphoria out of it and have done plenty cocaine in the past, not even close.

Anecdotal, but I know of an MD whom nearly lost his medical license for bupropion abuse. I can’t argue the chemistry with you, yet I can cite research it’s a growing trend. And, I also speculate that bupropion abuse could potientiate alcohol intoxication

You’re in for a long battle, but don’t give up trying to help her. Hopefully she will mature enough to start getting better. Pray to Saints for their help praying for your daughter. It worked for my son. I don’t know if it was the maturity or prayers or both, but don’t give up on her.

is this what he told you, or do you know the actual facts of the case? i would find it HIGHLY suspect if the MD was being reprimanded over a non-controled substance ONLY... medical licensing boards typically only get into the fray when there is a controlled substance issue... it would be like them threatening to take his license over misusing Lasix or Ibuprofen, by the letter of the law...

The “medication” that helped her will make it worse in the long term. They will rewire her brain and she’ll become dependent on them. Get her into rehab as soon as possible. I’m sure she’ll fight it, but give up on her. She’ll have to be ready to accept help. Eventually she will get tired of living that way and want help. She’s not herself right now and she doesn’t see a way out. She’s trying to crash the car so she has to get help.

I don’t know if you can forcibly commit her or not. If you can, do it. I feel for you.

Look at Louisiana Teen Challenge, I’ve heard good things about it and they have several locations.

Here’s there website: LINK

Don’t turn your back on her, she needs love even if it doesn’t seem that way.

We’ve all dealt with it one way or another.

Only do a 90 day inpatient rehab. Then transfer into sober living facility. At some point she cannot come home if she wants to live the life of alcohol or drugs. I am praying for you and your family. There's always a good chance this ends tragically. I know.
