I always got the "1,2,3" threat. If either of my parents got to "3", I was getting my arse beaten with a hand or belt. The question was always, "when am I getting the arse beating?". They would wait for hours before actually doing it, which gave me time to think about what I had done and time to think about the impending doom. It worked quite well.

The majority of the time I deserved it [Teacher phoning home about discipline]. Once I reached the age of 11 or 12. My folks stopped with the whole spanking deal. They would just start taking things away for a week or two. I got the picture fairly quickly.

I used to get a stick on a bare arse.
Dad used to make me go downstairs and "pick out a stick". And then I'd have to wait for him to come down.

I got whipped enough to make me behave. I usually wasn't a bad kid but I suppose I deserved it if my parents deemed what I did bad enough to get a spanking. Always with a belt except my grandma, she got me with a ping pong paddle

My Dad whipped us with his belt. We always deserved it. Never happened as a teenager for I would have had to have been a real dumbass not to have learned my place by that age.

Belts, hands, spoons,etc. deserved all of them. Didn't fear my parents, just respected them and their opinions more.
Timeouts were to catch my breathe or my dad called a timeout to make me stop so he didn't have to chase me.

my pop would take out the built up anger from dealing with the Bruthas and Sistas all day on my arse.
It was no fricking joke, my cousin still laughs at how my pop would grit his teeth together and my arse was in trouble.

I was whipped by a giant paddle mostly, sometimes by a belt. I deserved it every single time. I am much better for it and will be passing on that lesson/

Oh heck yes I was whipped as a child with any and everything. Belts, paddels, switches, wooden spoons, a swift pop of the hand, those little bats we got from Astros games, you name it, lol. I have also spent time on my knees on rice. Yes I deserved it 99.9% of the time and no it did not make me fear my parents. It did make me rethink some of my actions/decisions. IMO time outs are a joke but to each his own. Spare the rod, spoil the child. My children know what will happen if they step out of line. They will not be beaten but a whipping will be given.

My fathers hand, wooden paddles from principals and coaches.
I deserved many more than I actually got. I was good at not getting caught.
Never feared my parents, no need to, they were fair. Not that I didn't call him an a-hole under my breath on occasion.
Les Miles uses too many timeouts early in the half.

I would yell ouch, it hurts and I'll never do it again with mom. With dad I would try not to make a sound.
I was at a friend's house when I was about ten. His mother told him to do something and he called her a fool. His mom laughed.
I got home and my mom told me to go clean up my room. I called her a fool. After mom fly swatted at me, dad came home.
He asked mom why she was upset and she told him. He wore me out with that belt and I learned a great lesson regarding respect for my elders.
