Wow, this is bizarre.
My dad actually told me this story just last month.
Around the time that this was happening, the young man Chris who was molested by Cinel worked for my father. He kept saying that he wanted to quit once he won his lawsuit, but nobody at my father's business knew what kind of lawsuit it was, just that it was a major one. He was too embarrassed to tell them the true reason of the lawsuit. My dad kept trying to convince him to continue to work and save and invest his money, that he could see such a return that he could retire by 30 and have enough to live the rest of his life comfortably and leave his kids with some money. But he said no, and the day he won he quit and bought himself a Camaro and a boat.
My dad didn't learn about what the real nature of the suit was until he saw him on television.

Sounds like somebody needs to go to confession.

What kind of boat was he towing with a Camaro?
This kind of shite - the coverups and transferring of priests - is even worse than the initial molestations. Some of these frickers continued their behavior for years.
Watch the movie "Spotlight", if you're interested in this topic. It covers the Boston Globe's investigation of the Archdiocese of Boston and the downfall of the Archbishop Cardinal Bernard Law.

Fitting when you consider how much time he spent stabbing others.

The sick frick ended up getting married and having two children.

I think my father ended up more pissed at Harry Connick, than Hannan and Cinel, by the time the whole thing played out. And he was pissed at Cinel and Hannan.

Don Lemann the attorney who got him off is a neighbor of mine. He seems like an okay dude, after reading this It’s going to be weird acknowledging him.

I think you mean Arthur “Buddy” Lemann.
For those who don’t know, this came out slightly before the big Catholic priest scandal had really been exposed. In this case, the priest was actually charged but he beat the charge at Trial.
There were rumors that Connick, Lemann, and Judge Marullo conspired to make sure there was no conviction (in order to shield the church from scandal). I actually heard that jurors were bribed.
Now, I cannot confirm any of that. But I have a few tidbits to add to the story. The Clerk of Court for Orleans has tens of thousands of cases numbers, as you can imagine. Years after the trial, I was at the clerks office and noticed a handwritten note in bold letters taped to the counter that said “DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION ABOUT CASE # xxxxx!” I thought that was quite strange since there are so many sensitive cases that flow through that courthouse every year. What was so secret about this one special case to garner a note taped to the desk, I asked myself. As it so happened, I had access to those types of records in those days, and my curiosity prevailed - yes, it was the case of Dino Cinel.
The other tidbit was this. I live a few blocks away from Judge Marullo and also from Buddy Lemann. I know their houses. It’s a sidewalk community. Well, guess who moved into my block after the trial and after he had a new wife and kids? Dino Cinel!
The dude was odd. Even after that public trial, that arse would walk down the street without a shirt on, pulling his new toddler in a wagon, singing loudly in that strange Italian accent. One day, I told him to put a damn shirt on, cuz we knew who he was and he was making us sick.

Also, it should be pointed out that in this particular case, the priest was actually charged, and the Catholic Church defrocked him even though he was not convicted.

It shouldn't be and he probably is an okay guy. The guy was doing his job, which was to present the best defense possible. That's how our system works.
The child pornography charges were bullshite because it wasn't illegal at the time Cinel possessed the pornography. The bigger issue was victims unwilling to testify against Cinel. Possibly the statute of limitations had expired for Cinel to be charged, but more likely the Archdiocese paid off victims and convinced them that "talking" would be bad for the church. It's shameful.
Where's Chris and his Camaro today? Hopefully he received counseling and is leading a productive life, but I have my doubts. Many victims carry this with them to their graves.
We had a one time parish priest and family friend who was involved with a teen boy (16, I think) at another parish. My sister was trying to track him down to perform her wedding ceremony. My mother worked for the friggin' Archdiocese of New Orleans and couldn't find him. She started asking around, and after a bit, found out he was at a "priests retreat home". Code for "away from kids and (more importantly) law enforcement". That fricker had been in our house I don't know how many times when I was a teenager.
I was living in CA at the time and one day my father calls and starts asking me questions about a priest I hadn't given a thought to in 15 or 20 years. I was shocked when he told me the guy was a suspected molester. Thankfully, me and my brothers weren't his type.

Are you a little conflicted about this? Like, “Why wasn’t I chosen? Am I ugly?”

Buddy has moved since then. I live in Carrollton.

Buddy has a book out that I want to read. My mil said he was involved in a lot of high profile cases back in the day. He’s old man now and I don’t think he practices anymore.

Not conflicted at all. Very happy nothing like that ever happened to me.

The priest who married my mom and dad and all my aunts and uncles and christened me and my cousins turned out to be some kinda kiddy fricker. Michael Landry from St. Cecilia in Bywater.

We had an assistant pastor die of AIDS in the early/mid '80s. I pretty much stopped going to church when I went to college. I knew the guy, but not very well.
I came home from school one weekend and my parents sat me and my younger brother (who was also in town that weekend) down at the kitchen table. I knew it was something serious, but had no clue what it might be. My parents were both VERY Catholic and the church was a huge part of their lives. The two of them are looking real solemn and my brother and I are wondering WTF is going on. My mom starts talking ... "We have some terrible news ... Fr Cooper died.'" He was a younger guy, probably late '30s maybe. There had been a fire at the rectory a few years earlier and he had barely escaped out of a window. Now he was dead. Talk about bad luck. I asked what happened, assuming it was a car accident or another fire or something. In a low voice, my mom just said, "AIDS".
I didn't say anything and was trying to think of an appropriate response without making a gay priest joke. My brother slammed his palm on the kitchen table and shouted "DAMMIT!" I was surprised by his seemingly emotional reaction because I didn't remember him being particularly close to the guy. Then he followed up with the punch line ... "In this day and age, you'd think a Catholic priest would know better than to share needles!" I started laughing out loud, my dad even cracked a smile. Mom was pissed.
