I do. He is 13 years old, weights about 95 lbs., is overweight, hairy, and thinks I walk on water.

My wife fills that role now seeing as how we spend the vast majority of our time near and involved with one another. I don't really have the time, energy, or interest to devote to developing another best friend. (Hard enough maintaining the friendships I do have and that seems to go in both directions.)

A big negative about being a otr trucker for 44 years, is that you are gone from home so often that it is difficult to develop close friends. Most of my friends were fellow truckers but they lived in far away states. Now that I'm retired, I miss those type of friendships and they are hard to develop as we grow older.

I'm with fr33.
Oldest best friend since kinder lives in Washington state, now. Can only text or call.
Best man is in BR, but a phone call away. Licensed counselor, that helps.
Another "best" friend is a retired CPA in Florida, met through online cigar forums, we are almost exactly alike.
Closest friend now is my podnuh, he was a caregiver for 18 years, he's shepherding me through it, now, with my mom. We're also cigar buds and he boils seafood like no one's business. He's got time and he unlike my family, even, comes to visit me where I live with my mother.
Wife left me years ago in her mind; this year for real.
