I like to stay back about 2-3 car lengths in stop and go traffic to reduce the frequency of accelerating and breaking required. People lose their mind over this

Yes. Every Texas driver in the left lane.

My theory of these people:
I think many of these people don't have anything to do. They don't have jobs or are retired and aren't in any real hurry to get anywhere.
Or maybe they are incredibly thrifty and are trying to save gas and be hyper-safe.

Or they actually plan ahead and leave early. As someone that does this i dont feel the need to do 15 to 20 over the speed limit. Sorry your jimmies are rustled.

If I'm on the interstate I don't get inches from the next bumper but I may hang back a bit.

However, it is inufirating when people do this on smaller roads when I'm trying to turn right (where there's a right hand turn lane that appears up ahead) and I can't get into it yet because dumbfrick ahead of me texting away has 20 feet ahead of him but hey, the light's red so he's good. At that point I either get within millimeters of their bumper hoping they'll look in their mirror (yeah right...) or I just honk.

It shouldn't, but it absolutely amazes me the number of drivers on the road that are COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS to their surroundings.

I have seen this more and more since moving back south. People accelerating to nowhere. Just because someone wants to tailgate doesn't mean I will be pressured into doing so also.

I'm talking to prairieville people. You live 15 minutes from Baton Rouge. Yet you shut down the interstate every morning because you all think you need to be on the left lane.

I do it when some dumbass tries to drive right behind me when I'm already going at least 8+ miles over.

Your mom is either a dumbass or too old to drive.

OP is right, most of the people that drive like that have no where to go or do because they are retired or employed by the government tit.

The rest(although it includes some of first group) are literally too stupid to drive. Their reaction skills are too bad and driving fast is seriously a scary experience.

Generally people that drive very slow in the left lane with no regard to others are either very old or really trashy.

I work in Geismar and if you dont get on hwy 30 or 73 early you will be late. People should know this by now and adjust accordingly.

what lane are you in? On "main" roads (ie, not just neighborhood back roads) I usually go about 10 over which is fairly normal I think. If I'm in the left lane and someone is absolutely flying and getting up on me, I'll gladly get over in the right. I mean, sure the guy is hightailing it and going well over the speed limit but whatever, I'll let him go on about his merry way then get back over.

Now, if I'm cruising in the right lane and someone is all up on my bumper, at that point IDGAF how close they are.

So you have a job but were able to write that long arse post?

Speed limit is not the required speed. People can go as slow as the law legally allows.

My serious answer is that people who think they are saving time by speeding around are foolish and dangerous. The way that road ways are designed lumps cars together to take the same amount of time going from a to b in a metropolitan area. It might be a little different if you do a lot of rural highway driving. You speed past someone? They are going to catch up to you at the next stop light or the one after that. You are literally saving yourself at best literal seconds by driving like a maniac and making the roads more dangerous for everyone.

People who drive like they are in a hurry are both selfish and stupid. I'm looking at you OP.

There is a special place in hell reserved for people like you.

I will get in front of someone holding up traffic by driving slow in the left lane and slow down to the point that they get over and then I will speed back up. The only thing that I wish cops would give more tickets for is cruising in a passing lane.

Going 10 under the speed limit is FAR more dangerous than going 10 over

I totally understand this. Or a driver who is driving as his job and must go the speed limit.

In my experience, the people who end up tailgating aren't paying a lick of attention until they are right up on someone.

The time before that, when they could pass, they are playing on their cell phone or digging through their purse or slapping their mulatto child.

So frick all y'all piss-poor drivers who are habitually late for work and whose life sucks in general. I don't give a sheet.
