I’ve been here since January. I love it. I live on the water and drive 45 minutes up to an hour to work every day. The commute sucks, but worth it to me. I don’t think I would enjoy living in the city. To each his own, I guess.
Being able to go to LSU sporting events is a big plus for me.

In reading through some of the responses, it is strange to pick up a lot of people say they would like to be somewhere else but one thing or another has kept them here. I too, fall into that category, mainly stayed here because of family and kids. The kids are older now and will be off to college most likely not in LA and other than some aging parents that I don't see often enough now, there isn't really a lot keeping us here. I know a lot of the world stays where they grew up, and most of it's human nature, but you start to wonder if a lot of the complacency here which may have lead to the overall condition of Baton Rouge and surrounding areas is due to people don't really want to be here and don't give a shite. The ones that want to be here, aren't worth a shite. Don't get me wrong, I'm here in this shite too, so I am part of it, just seems like that when you take a step back.

My wife and I make a good living in BR. My wife isn't from LA but she has no interest in leaving right now. I don't think quality of life here is much different than many other areas in the South, especially if you aren't poor.
A lot of the OT are just drama queens about it.

I’m not sure about that

BR is not a great place but it’s not terrible either. It’s what you make of it.
This.
My biggest issues with Baton Rouge are infrastructure investment and the crappy leadership at LSU.
One of those are being addressed (not solved) in a public way, and the other is being handled quietly very well.

I disagree
EBR has invested over a Billion dollars on the sewer system. We’ve passed two tax measures and are currently paying two different sales taxes for improving local, state and federal highways. We are building libraries on a regular basis all over the parish. BREC is upgrading and parks and building new parks.
I’d argue taxpayers in EBR are paying for major infrastructure improvements in a big way.

Are you including Texas, Tennessee and The Carolinas? Smokey mountains, beaches, hill country (Texas). A lot of really nice places to live. To each his own, but one could argue your point.

I didn't say there weren't better areas in the South but there isn't much difference in living in BR vs Little Rock, Shreveport, Birmingham etc.

You’re one of my esteemed posters on this site, but with all due respect, I’ll have to disagree with you about Little Rock and especially Birmingham.

I will say... I always said i hate baton rouge and cant stand it. Little did i know how much i would miss it when i moved to New Orleans 9 months ago. Looking back now it's not that i love Baton Rouge it's just i hate New Orleans a hundred times more.

I enjoyed Baton Rouge when I was in school, but as I’ve gotten older, it’s apparent that it really is a total shite hole.

My wife is from Birmingham so we are there 4 or 5 times per year. She has an innate hatred for that place much like some on here do for BR. The city is pretty meh to me too. It's more ghetto than BR. Some of the suburbs are a lot nicer than Baton Rouge suburbs.

Ok, but what about mountain brook and vestavia Hills? The surrounding areas of Birmingham are super nice. Plus, the mountains are less than 3 hours away.
