From tv shows and interviews, white collar crimes have become a big thing for them. I know it was 14 years ago, but a crime report on gambino had an estimated 200 made members and ~ 2000 associates

They still have connected businesses that cover illicit activities. Just fewer Italian crews.

I'll say this. There would be less crime on the city if the mafia was still there.

I think that Shreveport/Bossier are so trashy around the boats is an indication of the mob losing it's power

The mob wouldn't allow that. Casinos have to look good. Clubs have to invite you to want to drink. Casinos have to make you want to come in.
You can't fear petty crime or such in the vicinity.

They kept the bs crimes at bay.

Now we have urban youths claiming a block from a house their momma has been renting for 15 years on vouchers.
Fighting people from the next block overt turf.

It's sad.

La Cosa Nostra is the correct name. Mafia is not the correct name.

So you are telling me mafias not associated with Sicily/Italy are to be correctly referred to as La Cosa Nostra?

They exist but not like in the movies. The low level street guys here in central FL are selling molly, steroids and some coke. That's where they're at now.

Pretty much at motorcycle club level on the organized crime food chain except they leave the meth and weed to the bikers.

They've been emasculated.

Yes, but with RICO they have been diminished quite a bit from their heyday.

The Patriot Act also fricked them up big time. It removed a lot of surveillance hurdles.

I've read the opposite, 9/11 and the FBI's focus shift to terorrism has brought about somewhat of a resurgence in the Northeastern mob families

I don't know but the Mafia lifestyle was greatly exaggerated through movies. I once read that the movie Donnie Brasco was the most realistic concerning how actual mafia members lived. They really did break into parking meters and other small takes to scratch by.

I remember them from the Gold Club fiasco in Atlanta.

The only thing in Tucson was Sammy The Bull's ecstasy ring that got busted. Nothing major going on there. The only reason he ended up there was because of Witness Protection which he didn't care about

Yes, they run reputable businesses now, with only a hint of strong arming the competition. KC,NY,NJ,etc still have the mafia influence.

Still around, but definitely a shell of what it use to be. The old school Mafioso guys are either all dead or in prison and the newer generation doesn't have the same criminal mindset the old timers had. They roll over like dice in a crap game when caught doing shite and facing big jail time.

RICO pretty much killed the Mafia, making prosecution of lots of members over one crime easy to do.
