Febreze-
Bathe dog
Vacuum furniture along with carpet

Change AC filter every 30 days-use a quality pleated one. -

Make up your mind if you want an inside or outside dog- allowing them to roam freely in and out is the main issue.

We only have carpet in our bedroom. The dog sleeps with us, but is only allowed in there just to go to bed. We don't have a noticeable dog smell at all... 40 lb dog.

This is pretty gross. Put the dog where it's lived since the species appeared on earth....outside.

Vacuum regularly and use carpet fresh. Wash whatever the dog sleeps on at least once a week.

There is literally nothing you can do to hide the smell of pets in a house. Replace the carpet and furniture and put the dog outside.

My wife had a dog in the house once and when she backed over it on accident one day it was a blessing because now we will never have another dog in the house. I hate the smell of cats and dogs in a house. Its fricking disgusting.

And wait a minute...two pages and no one suggested maybe this guy's SO is getting a little frisky with Fido in the afternoons, hence the dog smell when he comes home from work.

Ignore these people and invest in a steam cleaner. It gets rid of the smell. At the very least, rent a rug doctor now and then. Clean your furniture fabric, too. Your place will smell new.

Also, pets or not, it's best to open doors/windows and air out your house. Air in insulated buildings gets funky just from staying stagnant, so outside air will clean it out.

Wash the dog's bedding with detergent and a glug or two of cider vinegar. That knocks dog smell out of things.
