I'd love to know how BRPD is affording this checkpoint with all the debt they're about to endure with the upcoming riots and overtime.
I swear they haven't done one of these since Sterling.

They'll probably put it on Perkins between Olive or Twist and Calandro's to catch some of those guys from the Bourbon thread on the FDB.

At least we know where the checkpoint won't be.

If true then I'm sorry for your loss...
But, DUI checkpoints don't stop and aren't about stopping drunk driving (or even cutting down on it). They are about money.
Because of lobbying efforts of groups like MADD there's a tremendous amount of government funding that comes from operating these checkpoints, and it's all results based. The more people you charge, the more money you get.
In the past couple of decades the "legal limit" for being drunk behind the wheel has dramatically dropped. We're now down to the point where even the average person could safely operate a vehicle but still be above the "legal limit." That's total bullshite.
Also, the claim is that I'm too impaired to operate my vehicle, yet somehow I was sober enough to be criminally culpable for making the decision to drive? That's a very flimsy connection to intent.
Furthermore, I was somehow able to drive from the bar to the checkpoint without incident. That would seem to indicate that I am indeed capable of operating my vehicle.
Lastly, if they really wanted to curtail drunk driving and not just get more funding or inflate there numbers for the next election... why not take the dozen or more officers and station them in the parking lots of the dozen or so more popular bars? The officer could get people as they leave the bar, check them, and if they are impaired, tell them to get a cab home. That would actually keep the drunk from ever getting on the road in the first place! (But that doesn't make them money - police, special interest groups, lobbyists, politicians, district attorneys, judges, lawyers, insurance companies... the list goes on and on. #followthemoney)
And don't even get me started on the raping of constitutional rights they are doing.

Free drinks 8-10 at uncle earls on Thursdays. It goes down for Thursday night football. I'd guess Perkins

I wouldn't be surprised, some people will do anything to increase their odds of getting some pappiez...

Why don't the cops ever put check points up on like North Foster or Plank road? That doesn't happen much I bet.

Is it a constitutional right to be able to drive?

You don't have to self incriminate yourself if you get pulled over. Don't have to do a field sobriety test. Don't have to blow in a breathalyzer. So what do you mean?

Well, they are stopping people and questioning them without probable cause.
While not mentioned in the constitution they also suspend your license for refusing to follow orders, even if you're not drunk. Something something something innocent until proven guilty.

You get automatically arrested for failing to give the police evidence (field sobriety or breathalyzer) to be used against yourself. That is the very definition of self incrimination.

Because most folks in that area can't afford the fines and if you take their cars away they can't get to whatever job they have...
Does this really need to be explained to you?
