re: EBR 3.13 Mill Tax Renewal for EMS

That amendment has all the buzz words for an automatic tax increase. It will pass with flying colors.
This is just like the exemption for veterans last year. Literally, the previous voting cycle had a veterans tax exemption for x number of years. Then the next cycle yet another exemption for even more years. At some point, you are just abusing the tax code and trying to exempt every "group" to garner votes and pad your virtue come the next election.

I vote NO for any tax increase even if they say it'll go straight to "6R12" bank account.

EMS/Fire Department or any other facet of new taxes is not needed because the baseline spending on all of these departments is already out of control.
So if you’re an ems director or fire chief what would be your solution? I get government gives too many handouts and that plays into it. But if you are ems director or fire chief, that’s not under your control, so what would be your solution? If you say go private regarding fire/ems I got bad news for you

I voted for it and own substantial property in the parish. When my 7-year old daughter was bleeding out, EMS helped save her life. So yeah, it's worth it.

Yeah, my family paid a lot of money for Acadian Ambulance service until they told my grandfather it "wasn't an emergency" as my grandmother was actively septic. Private companies are only there to turn a profit.

I understand the need for ems and the rest, my issue with all gov is once established growth occurs forever it seems, at all levels. Pull some La Legis audit reports for your local entities and look for yourselves.
A conservative would preach self reliance. Learn basic first aid, etc. I just do not see it happening from any leaders.

In lieu of emergency medical services?

Yep, I’ve worked part time for them. I’m in Shreveport/Bossier area and don’t know much about south La departments. There’s a reason why Ouachita parish tax base is pushing for OPFD and Monroe Fire to take over ems, or last I heard they were. There’s a reason Ruston kept RFD instead of Pafford. Not only was the savings negligible, if any, there was going to be less ambulances and not even guaranteed paramedics to cover. Not only that, an ambulance from one parish goes on a call, you take away an ambulance from another parish to come “post up” They run skeleton crews, shitty equipment, and people with nose rings

Getting old sucks, so do car wrecks, and other bad situations. I’ve known plenty of “self reliant” conservatives needing an ambulance

they will come up with the money
Private ambulance services will take over and send you the biggest farking cab ride bill you have ever seen. That's what will happen.

Idiotic morons see "EMS" or "Fire Department" on a piece of legislation and it's an automatic vote, regardless of what it reads.
Or “first responder”
The property tax exemption on the ballot next month will pass easily & before long only a handful of folks will be paying property taxes because it’ll surely be abused.

Did you miss this part here? It's a renewal, it's not a new tax.
With bidenomics this could be a little extra money if it didn’t pass. All this does is release money to pay for some other crap

Be prepared because this may be a shocker but….maybe they can work within their existing budget? I know, crazy talk.

Only property owners should be allowed to vote on property taxes
Posted on 10/16/23 at 7:48 pm to Supermoto Tiger
You must have been a wiz at math. 3.13 mills out of 52.733 total mils. A good bit less than half. About 5.9% of total tax.

This may also be a shocker but ambulances and equipment costs more than it did in 1982. Also cities grow. When public wants ems to be top notch how can you do it on a 1982 budget? Crazy, but they don’t actually do mouth to mouth in ambulances anymore, we actually buy cool thingies that for that now
Eta: Isn’t this a renewal? They are working within the budget, you just want them to work with less.

The newest voters have been trained to believe gov't is the answer. They want socialism. They are willing to pay for it.
