I don't know about you boys in Louisiana but us in Mississippi are experiencing a milder than usual summer. We have had zero days break 100 where I am. This whole extreme heat is bullshite. It's the South. It's the summer. It's hot. That's normal.

Forest fire and evacuations in Sabine Parish now.
They've found multiple fires per the scanner. No thunderstorms/lightning in the area. Asking dispatch to get in touch with Forestry to get a dozer.

They've lost one house on Sunny lane in one of those fires.

That’s nice but so what? How does this affect me? He’s going to pay my Entergy bill?
For one, farmers can apply for federal aid since they are losing crops and livestock.
The trucking industry gets lax rules on carrying certain goods that are needed during an "emergency."
I know some people who post can't see past a D or an R, but sometimes administrative steps need to be taken to help others. (novel idea?)

JBE will go down as the best governor to those who feed off its coffers without having to got to jail. Pretty slick bastard.

It is in the Florien area. At least two fires and maybe other starts.

Smoke on radar from that fire.

10 occupied structures gone and 8 unoccupied structures gone.

Should we prepare for the 72 Maui-esque conspiracy theory posts?

This one sounds like someone dragging a chain or arson. With all those (I think) chicken houses and farms around that area I'm sure there is plenty equipment moving regularly. When it is really dry and a chain drags or something similar it will spark and you get starts here and there. They have at least two, maybe more, starts in the same general area. Shithead arsonists will start random fires here and there, too.

It's a fricking drought. Yes, he is supposed to mobilize resources just like with any other weather issue.

The state of emergency doesn't, and probably won't, have much to do with this.

Look at the drought monitor and try to tell me that drought is a reason to declare a state of emergency. If so, we would have ~20 states declaring them.
Resources should be mobilized, anyway. This changes nothing with regards to how wildfires are managed. If it does, someone dropped the ball. As far as farmers and potential crop issues, I promise you they're covered pretty well already.

Upside is less paperwork. What's the downside?

Hmm. They are conveniently done right before fires start in Louisiana.

The fire outside of Florien is contained and under control, just knocking down hotspots at this time. Still active fires elsewhere, including one threatening a power pole that would knock out power to Florien if the pole/lines come down.
