I am sure its pretty steep. Where I live there are three local krewes and I think the estimated cost is north of $50k. Something like Endymion.. I would think a few hundred thousand.

I was told twenty plus years ago that King Gabriel in Lafayette was $90-110k

the king’s costumes are all custom and handmaid and are $20+k

there are fees, photographers, transportation, parties, gifts, the ball costs etc

I'm sure the price has gone up. About 7 years I was woman with a daughter around 7 years old. Her ex husband family knew Ed Nunez. Her ex MiL put a $25K deposit for her granddaughter (woman daughter) to be Queen of Endymion the year she turns 18. Another $25K was due the year before the parade rides. I asked the woman what happens if ex MiL dies before that. She said her ex MiL had it in her will to owe the remaining $25K to Endymion. With 2021 Mardi Gras cancelled everything got pushed back a year. So all in for the woman ex MiL was $50K about 7 years ago.

Endymion covers all costs for the King. It’s a lottery at the coronation. Everyone who’s been a member for, I believe three years, can enter the lottery.

The Queen picks the king and an alternate and they announce the King as soon as it’s picked. I do not believe they announced the alternate, but we were at the Queen’s table and it was very far from the stage.

I believe he also gets special throws and a few other bennies. His krewe dues is what it costs, nothing else.

The Queen is a different story. That’s a lot of cash.

And that’s not including the dress, the crown, the Queen’s party, the extravaganza tickets for family and friends. Those are 375 a piece, and this year’s Queen’s father paid for ours, and I believe several other close family members and friends.

He dropped a lot of cash, enough to buy a very nice Benz for his daughter, but she deserved this. She is a freshman at LSU and busts her arse in every thing she does, and literally lights up a room when she walks in.

I’ve known her for a quite a while as her father and we are quite close, one of my best friends, and he feels the same. Ace is a great dude who raised a great young lady.

I’ve never seen her be a “mean girl”, or act shitty to anyone. She is my “daughter from another father” and I am called uncle or papa Smurf (I’m short), lol. I couldn’t be more proud of the young lady she has become and look forward to watching her achieve so much more in her life. Yay, Queen Lily!!!
