My uncle and aunt are really into it and have caving crews they roll with. I meant a bunch of them and they’re a strange crew. Mostly stoners and off grid types.

Did it quite a bit while in college. Tons of caves in the North Alabama area. I even got to go to several closed to the public. And yes, crawling on your stomach with solid rock pressing down on you is unnerving.

We have some caves around my hometown. Ive been there but didnt have the berries to explore. I mever got far enough that I couldn't see the light

Caving isn’t that bad, just need work your way up to get in some of the tighter areas you hear about.
It is also good for exercise and can be relaxing as well. Pretty rare to have tragedies like this.

i'm an ncrc - national cave rescue commission - rescuer
it's wild. there are several routes in the tag (tn,al,ga) where if you go in, you have to sign a waiver saying we will not come rescue you. it's impossible to do so

Just enough to get it out of my system.
Quickly found out it’s a lot like rock climbing and bouldering without being in the dark and constantly dirty. Like filthy dirty. Above ground was much more fun.
