I definitely am. I would travel an hour either way but everyone wants 3-5 yrs of experience haha. Kind of hard to obtain that just graduating college.

What areas are booming an hour either way of BR? You need to be looking 4 hours west of BR

Getting a degree and putting it on your resume ensures that said resume doesn't automatically go in the trash pile.

bullshite. Experience trumps a piece of paper. Now what that paper will do down the line is give you the opportunity to get into mgmt positions

It's not what you know but who you know. I have to explain that to my buddies all the time. Good Luck

That's the thing, the job I'm at right now is kind of a dead end job. Unless I want to wait 15 years to get into management. I'm the only one in the office that can do every other person's job but they seem to be grooming someone else that only can one or two things.

Sell yourself. Don't have connections? Make some. Don't have "Additional Preferred Qualifications"? Get them.

Make them want to buy what you are selling (easier said than done; I know).

You do have the degree references and grades and I commend you for that as I was in the same boat until recently and didn't have a good GPA with an engineering degree. For me, I wanted to go into air permitting in environmental consulting. It took me doing lots of independent research into various topics, constantly tweaking my resume and cover letter, developing references at the shittyjobs I had to take to pay the bills, and spamming potential employers until I got interviews. That process was very hard, thankless work and I just didn't know if it would pay off. But it's all about putting yourself in a position so that you stand out and aren't just relying on what you did in school, at least for me anyway. Anyway, I just accepted a position with an O&G contractor here in BR for an entry level position that would put me in the $60k/yr range. What's more, all that toiling did net me an offer higher than the usual industry rate for the position and experience. No it's not exactly what I want but it's adjacent and the pay will allow for a comfortable lifestyle as I begin to pay back my loans and contemplate starting a family. Plus, I'll have the opportunity to expand into air permitting/compliance within the company once I gain more experience. So I'm very grateful, and I did it with no connections and a worse gpa. I just wanted to provide my story to you OP to let you know it's possible, but you have to be self aware and willing to go that extra mile. Also be thankful for how far you've come already in life and know that it's just beginning for you and you'll find your way.

LSU offers that degree? Out of what department?

Not going to lie, I don't even know WTF you'd do with that. Work in purchasing or something?

Was in your shoes...got tired of watching idiots get jobs over me so I moved to Denver(was also considering Raleigh) with no job and no place. Found a place in a few days and a good job after, interviewed for 5 jobs.

Moral of story..find somewhere where youd like to live besides BR. There are places where the job market is better

I can definitely relate to the point you made about just needing to prove yourself. Been out of school two years now and looking at getting my masters now to give me any additional boost I can get. Been working at the same job since before college and maxed out at what I can honestly do here. Making 33K a year and while I do get interviews here and there I end up not hearing back. I had a phone interview yesterday and had the guy ask me why such a delay in the internship and now. I interned my freshman year of college (worked out perfect because the team left that year) and graduated two years ago so it's been six years since I've interned and he seemed concerned for whatever reason as to why I am now wanting to "move into" that field when that was my goal all along.

It'll work out. I get frustrated all the time mainly because my current employer doesn't appreciate me one bit but I can't even get an entry level job so I'm stuck currently. I understand you completely though. It'll work out in time. I have to tell myself that all of the time to keep the constant job search off my mind.

Good luck!

Consider getting with one of the turnaround/project construction companies to get your foot in the door. You might have to travel some at first for the first year or so, but then you will get the experience and connections and can look for a permanent job close to home.

Look at Turner, Wyatt, Repcon, Elite, SWAT, etc. Brown and Root should start hiring soon as well since Bernhardt is in charge now and looking to expand in a hurry.

You honestly don't know what someone would do with an Industrial Technology degree? It was a pretty hot degree until about a year ago with all of the jobs opening in refineries, etc and the expansions happening. Still not a bad degree to have if you want to live in Texas or La.
