How much harm if any at all can a dog like that do to a grown arse man with a gun..
None if the man shoots the dog. So yep, you have a good point.

I dont think a cop is allowed to shoot an un-armed civilian if attacked.
The cop didn't do that so no problem, right?
This looks like a perfectly justified shooting to me. Anyone who thinks that a police officer must assume that a dog is friendly until it actually bites him (or that a gun is a toy until he is shot with it) is a dumbass.

I'm just going to assume you are trolling here because I can't handle this type of stupidity this morning

I just feel like the gun should be the last line of defense in this situation. He reacted and that was his first reaction.
That is because we can't afford to teach them to do anything differently.
There is this mindset that we have to allow cops to make decisions on the fly without fear of being publicly shamed and prosecuted. Guns use to be for a cops protection and a visual deterrent. It's slowly turned into a tool of intimidation and now it's developed into a first line of defense in a life threatening situation. I know I know, this was not life threatening. Well, that depends on who you ask. If you ask the cop, he feared for his life, and the sad thing is he might be telling the truth.
Is he a shitbird? Yes. No doubt about it. Someone should throw a friendly beating on him
Should he be forced to resign? Absolutely. Anytime a police officer does something to negatively impact the work of good cops, it's time for them to move onto something else.
Does he need to be prosecuted? I don't think so.
Cops need to learn that they are no special operators. They need to admit they have minimal, at best, training.
You can't just go around shooting shite every time your butthole puckers.

This guy gets it.
Dogs are dangerous creatures that can maul you on a whim. This officer potentially saved both himself and a small child that day from grievous injury/death. He should get a commendation. Sometimes it's necessary to kill to protect, something the rest of this board knows nothing about.

Eh, that doesn't really matter to me. Cops should have the absolute right to go wherever they want, whenever they want. They don't need a justification.
What in the actual frick?

that cop was startled, as would have any normal person
sorry the doggy got shot dead
But that fricking pig does not have dominion over an animal that isn't theirs. You're an a-hole.

I blame the owner... Shouldnt have let the dog out. Dude is afraid of dogs... Shoots dog. I wouldnt have, but then again i dont have a fear of dogs.

I was a paperboy in the 60s when mailmen walked their routes door to door unarmed, lease laws were not enforced, we were run at by barking dogs daily and somehow came away unscathed, the cop is just a wimp POS.

No kidding, how are cops such pussies?
Just take the dog nip you bunch of fricking cowards. Most likely it won't even bother snapping at you anyway.

If a violent suspect had come out the door after releasing an attack dog the officer would have been ready

I am sure the dog feels differently, or rather felt differently. It takes a big man to face down his fears like that. We should be happy we have brave men like that protecting us.

The detective is a pussy.

looked like the opened the door slowly, like they were trying to hold the dog back but he squirted between their legs or something
I've seen that happen plenty of times, dogs are curious animals and like to run outside
quote:
Like I said in my post up above. I have 3 beagles that have all squirted out the door at one time or another on everyone in my house. My girls are terrible about it. In the video you can see the door kind of moving like she was trying to hold the dog back.
I know it happens. I'm saying it's preventable.
quote:
simple fact is that if a normal citizen did exactly what the cop did, no one would be taking up for the citizen
no idea why some people think cops are infallible
Where have I said cops are infallible? I even said this one overreacted.
And if you want to play hypotheticals, let's say instead of a cop it was a little girl selling something, and the dog charged out and attacked her. People in here would be blaming the owners for letting the dog out.
If I were the detective, would I have shot the dog immediately? I'm sure I wouldn't have. But I also love dogs and would've tried to pet it or something, and if it was attacking me, I'd have hit it or kicked it first.
And FWIW, I think the cop acted too quickly and should not have shot the dog. This is just a shitty situation.

Exactly. How was the officer supposed to know if the dog was just coming over to lick or bite him? Better shoot first then die later.

Looks justified to me. The cop has good reaction time and aim too.
