The government picking winners is never a good idea. I voted for this.

It’s more fundamental than picking winners unfortunately.

It’s an foundational choice between agreeing that there is a climate crisis that justifies uprooting the entire bedrock of the western democracies and limiting choices for every citizen from travel to AC to where you can live or not.

The ramifications of that divergence in logic are so impactful that even outside of politics it would be causing a schism within our cultures that would have neighbor against neighbor.

To me having $100k suvs that break at 30k miles to save 3mpg or giving away $7500 for vehicles that need new batteries at 70k miles for $15k is a symptom of that debate rather than the actual disease.

We have to make a final call on what direction we’re going to go on that and stick to it because the ramifications to society and industry are massive and impact everything from real estate to the job market and will dictate to a large degree the life that Gen Z experiences.

The incentive was supposed to be temporary to boost investment into EV R&D.

That happened. Ford sells more EV Mustang hatchbacks than they do actual Mustangs.

GM and Hyundai have excellent EV products that they didn't have 10 years ago.

Tesla's Model Y is the best selling vehicle in the world that isn't a pickup truck.

They don't need incentives anymore. They need to figure out how to make these EVs affordable.

And the woke morans there put the Mustang badge on a four-door taxi cab-looking abortion.

That abortion has been selling better than the real Mustang lately BTW. It will probably be less popular starting right now though unless Ford drops the price.

Wait and see what happens when the tax credits end, already being cited that current EV sales are mostly consumers rushing to get one ahead of the credit expiration.

Farley propping up investors for another letdown. Has been a terribly managed company for the last 20 years. They should focus on their core business and quit following the “popular” trend. Their EVs suck. He should do a quarterly call bashing EV business and say they are going to make the 150 diesel again that doesn’t suck. And do it in a SNL style skit to pay homage to his cousin Chris

And Im not even anti-EV, in general.

Same. They can be good in alot of circumstances. The same way public transportation can be. But like with public transport, it just doesn’t make much sense in 90% of the U.S. because of how things have been built up and developed. Fully supportive of EVs. But don’t try to force me into one when it doesn’t make sense for me.

Charging at home at night is actually a good solution for most drivers and really doesn’t cause any infrastructure issues in terms of electrical generation capacity.

I would not expect that to last very long. Other states (again, here’s looking at you California) are starting to throttle back the power to homes who are charging their cars at night. Many owners in large cities in CA are only able to bring their cars to 50-60% by morning.

Seriously, look up solid state batteries. The Rivian owners have been waiting/promised solid state for 5 years now. I personally do not think it will ever happen. They can’t seem to solve the “what happens in a major collision scenario”. Well, other than the car burning to the ground with the heat of 1,000 suns.

How important are solid state batteries?? Any hope of ever making it to Mars depends on it. Long lasting, fast charging. Hmmmmmm. Sounds like Musk knew what he was doing when he ventured into the EV business as he formulated his plans for space……

that and the absolute bottomless depreciation of EVs outside of Tesla...
