My maternal grandfather was huge into gambling on those ponies. Since I can remember in the mid or late 90s his TV stayed on TVG.
He was an addict (didn't drink or do drugs, just gambling). Would take home around 800k/yr , not pay taxes and filled for personal bankruptcy twice in 10yrs in the late 80s and early 90s.
One of my earliest memories is going with my maternal grandmother to rip him out of an off track betting place.
Addiction sucks. I'm kinda a clone of him. For better and worse.

I’ve dealt with a good bit of fallout from gambling in my life 
Definitely not fun for anybody around the addict, and just as damaging as other forms of addiction for destroying not just the person, but everyone in their lives.
I just like horses and can spend all day at the track without a single bet. When I do bet, it is in very small amounts
