Went to The Outrigger a dozen or so times back in 80's early 90's. Never alone, always with friends/family. We got in a fight four times and it would've probably been another four if we had been a little dumber. That place (and most of the island) had the constant vibe of potential violence if you weren't from south of Leeville. Which was part of the attraction for our dumbasses. Hell, one of the four was my 45 yr old dad and I getting jumped by a couple of 19 yr olds for ordering Tanqueray instead of well brand. We were "too good for them". Never mind they eyeballed us coming in pulling a 20 yr old piece of shite boat with a 15 yr old truck and my dad was a pipefitter at the time, and I was working 2 campus jobs while paying my way thru school. It bears mentioning, these were the only 4 fights I have been in since my sophomore year at LSU.
Since then, with Hurricane Hole and such, it has tamed down. The Outrigger closing didnt hurt. Then again, mid 90's, I did get threatened with a beatdown on a pre-dawn weekday morning at Bridgeside Marina store for simply saying "what's up podnah" to a dude walking in.
Even now, that island does not suffer fools/retards lightly.
