I think it depends on the species.
Great Whites don't prefer us because we're too bony, but they'll eat us if they're hungry enough.

White sharks seem to have a discerning palate. Whale/seal blubber when the sharks are full grown. Goes to the calories gained vs effort given.
Now for the Indianapolis, it sinking, just like very ship that sinks, was a dinner bell for the sharks out on the open ocean. Oceanic white tips, tigers, blues. All of those cruise the open ocean desert and will eat anything for the taking.
But the Great White is the “shark” everyone thinks about. I’d take my chances with a white over a Tiger or a Bull shark.

Research has also shown that people who are bitten by white sharks while alone are often consumed if they can’t get back to shore or to a boat. When white sharks attack large seals they often let them bleed out before consuming them.
