Buy them the suits. It's something they will actually use for years (assuming you buy them descent suits)

"Dave, you are my best friend. I would love for you to be my best man and stand by me to marry the love of my life.
You will? Cool.
Oh by the way, you gotta pony up some cash to wear a tux you'll likely never have a need or chance to wear again because our floral arrangements are blue and you're gonna have to match everything.
Oh and I need you to take a week off work because it'll be on a cruise
THANKS BRO, MY BACHELOR PARTY BETTER BE SICK DAWG"

Only if they're spelunkers.

Definitely ignore the "buy their suits" advice. That's lame. I would be happy that I get to buy a suit for $200 that I get to keep rather than blow the same amount on renting a tux.
I would say get them a box of PRO V1s customized with their names or something.

You say this like you can only buys tux if you have to go to a wedding. The groom isn't "letting you" buy a tux. He's demanding you to.

Exactly. If his point is that buying a cheap suit is better than renting a cheap tux, I agree, but you'r not doing anyone a favor with either.
A suit is by no means as classy as a tuxedo, but hardly anyone wears a true tuxedo at a wedding anyway, so I've got no problem with buying a suit instead of the prom-esque stuff at most weddings.
Buy the suits for them as a gift. It is as practical as you can be.

Monogrammed chairs that double as ice chests. Google it

They have to buy a suit and pay for a cruise for your wedding? If so i would get them something nice. I got mine dewalt drills.

Also dudes are getting as bad as women with the monogram shite. I don't need to drop an extra 40% to have a reminder of what my initials are in cursive.

Wedding party will probably be asked to buy matching suits as opposed to renting tuxes.
That sounds like a terrible idea.

I would much rather pay $200 for a suit that I can wear over and over than a $180 tux I'll spend 8 hours in

Sure, but the downside is that you're likely to choose a color that some/all of them already have, and now they've got to buy another navy suit just to match everyone else?
Or you can pick a color out of left field which is much, much worse than renting.
The bottom line is that you're making people spend more money (buying vs. renting) for something that they don't get to choose, even if they get to keep it. In essence, I've got to spend $200-$250 on something that in all likelihood was picked out by your fiancee. Do everyone a solid and pay for it for them. Now they're getting a suit for free and there is no chance of upsetting anyone. Plus, if you think making them buy it is a great idea for them, buying it for them is even better.

Buy them some cheap whores for the night

Yeah if you are making them jump through all those hoops and spend that money, you better have OT 10 Hookers waiting at their door wedding night.

Nobody has told you that they are pissed abut having to pay for a cruise and the suits, but they are all bitching about it behind your back

Are the suits the same price as the tux? If that's the case then maybe it's not so terrible.
But the way the OP explained it made it sound like they would be forking over considerably more money than renting.
