The gates for Addicks are open and they're releasing water. From what I've read water goes over the spillway at elevations above 108, it's currently at 109.07.
ETA, was missing a zero in the current elevation.

Actually, Addicks alone has six gates at the control structure. See link. There are no gates on the spillway.

How do they drain Addicks and Barker? There must be some type of control structure because I'm sure I read that USACE was planning on gradually opening it until it reached the flow rate they wanted.

They've got a dam with flood gates. They'll be releasing water for a month to get it back to normal elevations.

The river/creek/bayou water levels are still astonishing (with some still rising). So many are still at or above record levels.

I work in Beaumont and have zero idea when I'll be able to get back. All roads I could take are closed.

You got a gauge for the Sabine River at Deweyville Texas. Busted the record by 4 feet last spring and that little town was pretty much wiped out.

Doing a little math with the rain volume (and how long this may take).
Someone estimated 20 trillion gallons of water fell in the Houston area.
The Mississippi river (The USA's best drain) at max flow is 3,065,000 cfs. Which equals:
22,926,200 gallons/second
1.38 billion gallons/minute
84.5 billion gallons/hour
And at that flowrate, it would still take the Mississippi river 242 hours (~1.5 weeks)at maximum flow rate to move that much water.

So let's be honest at this point. Southeast LA (BR and NOLA) are coming out of this Pretty Scott free.
I mean we have certainly had in and off rain but nothing terrible. There's certainly no 8-10 inches that I've seen

Sooo I almost just lost my truck in the Colorado driving from El Campo to Wharton. Yikes that situation got bad out of nowhere. I guess I left right at the sweet spot as the water was rising but before they stopped traffic on 59.

BR area has been fine. Most gauges showed 4-6" over the last 3 days. Not much at all. Couple gauges in Ascension show 8-10" over the last 3 days, but that was isolated.

Harris County is supposed to be 1 trillion gallons. Perhaps 20 trillion fell altogether, but they're always pretty liberal with these numbers and locations.

Beaumont-Port Arthur is going to give the Lower 9th/Gentilly/NO East a run for its money.
