agreed
trying to figure a way to get to port o'connor, all i can come up with is the leesville route all the way to 190W then south on 45 to 99, then around to 10W, 71S to 59S
that adds 4hrs and 150mi to my normal trip

I will be doing the same. I have friends headed that way this evening using that route. I will pass along any word I get.

We are headed in from BR in the morning and plan on going to Leesville and cutting across Hwy 8 to TX 63.

What's scary is that within one calendar year we have had to 1000 year flood events six hours apart.

Absolutely, won't happen for another 2000 years though, so we've done our part.

Sure, but the “1000-year flood" means a .1% chance of happening each year in that specific location. They're not 1000 year floods for the US as a whole.

Looking at the list of hurricanes it seems like people in the early 1900's really lacked creativity

Look at the upcoming names, 50% of those wouldn't have made the cut back then.

I didn't read all the posts but I left BR this morning and made it to downtown Houston in about 7-1/2 hours with a few stops. No flooding, no detours, no closures. I'm sure with more roads opening, a shorter route will emerge. We didn't want to take the chance of getting turned back so we went that route. I can post the route if needed.
FYI, gas lines didn't become crowded until Huntsville.

Is there any flooding through LA due to Harvey currently?

Thanks to Timothy from Bunkie for the boat ride. Had to paddle in to see how bad my house was and he towed me out. It's awesome seeing complete strangers coming and helping people.

We have had a large tornado in Pickens and Fayette Counties in west Alabama this afternoon. Associated with the spiral bands of Harvey.
Particularly interesting because large tornadoes don't usually occur in tropical systems.

from katy for example:
take 99 to 45 to huntsville, then east on 190 to jasper
then 63/8 to leesville
then make your way to 49S/10E
