Never sailed/submerged on one but I was on a navy subtender so I probably was on most subs in the Atlantic fleet at least once. The smell is unique to subs, you never forget it.

I don’t get how people overcome the feelings of claustrophobia in those things. I think that’s one thing I wouldn’t even consider for a career for a second. I get the claustrophobic feeling just thinking about it

Yep. Tour sub out of Kona to view fish and wrecks on the bottom. Comfortably seats about 16 normal people or 12 wide bottom ones. Temp inside was like a mid-spring afternoon, warm and slightly humid.

No but went down on your mom like a sub

I have a cousin who was a submariner. I used to give him shite telling him he had the worst gig in the Navy being stuck on a sub. He said it wasn't too bad except for the smell.
I gotta hand it to anyone who ever did duty on a sub. It would freak me out to know that I couldn't go outside for weeks or months on end. Any Navy vessel is gonna be cramped, but at least you can go get some fresh air on a surface ship. Makes my skin crawl thinking about it.

If we are counting your mom, yes.

Doesn't the 20,000 leagues ride at Disney world go underwater?

I did the Atlantis tourist sub ride in Honolulu. Went like 100-150 feet down I think. Pretty cool but I was relieved when we surfaced. Definitely not for me and gave me more respect for submariners.

Took a tour on a Navy sub. Not underway, in port. Quite interesting what I was allowed to see but it reinforced the belief I would never be comfortable with that duty. Respects to those that do serve in the silent service.

Does 20,000 leagues under the sea at Disneyworld count ? We did encourage significant deadly gases of the anal kind

There's a tour you can do in Cozumel. Sub goes like 150ft or so deep, navigates around the shelf, and comes back up. Kinda lame overall, but the kids had a blast

I did this one with the family, think I still have a pick of the digital readout when we were at 102 ft deep. Old type sub, kind they release an air bubble so they can cleanly surface. We had a great time with the kids, saw lots of cool things on the ocean floor and saw some divers out in 20-30 feet on wrecks.

wasn’t too hot unless we ran drills and dumped the R114s. Engine room would hit 140 in no time.
What are/is r114s? Refrigerant?

It was funny but for some reason the Navy really wanted me to go into nuclear engineering and then into submarines and called me a number of times. Back around 1977 when I was a freshman engineer in college. Nope, nope, nope, nope... For surface ship nuclear reactors (aircraft carriers) they might have had a chance because I've always loved seeing the world. But in a nuclear sub that one incentive doesn't apply. It seems like it would be a horrible life.

Did one from Kona that had windows to see the reefs and fish. Don't think it went very deep.

Have also been inside the U-Boat at the Museum of Science and Industry. I was told the interior shots in the movie Das Boot where shot in a recreation of the inside of that sub.
