Does insurance no longer cover these minor damages?

I dropped off a car in Orange County Airport. Tight garage. The guy who drove off with the vehicle after drop off hit something and they blamed me. Tried charging me $2k.

This is total BS. No proof to the customer when the before photo was taken and when the after photo was taken. I see a lot of lawsuits coming for Hertz and another bankruptcy.

Never heard of this. Serious question: Is this covered by your auto insurance as a liability claim?

That's a good idea. If they won't, I'm taking pictures or video before I drive off. We're taking a trip later this year and we have to rent a car after flying in. I need to find out who's the company.

One of my great joys in life was when I worked for the state, took many, many pictures of before/after on the cars I rented, and would get a call on every fourth one or so saying that I damaged the vehicle. I was nowhere near as confrontational a person back then, but I loved getting their bosses email address and sending a detailed power point showing either no damage, or the damage that previously existed (and was noted because I would take pictures of all contracts and my signoffs, and I'm meticulous with this stuff). I would openly ask why they would risk a gigantic contract with the state just to attempt to illegally hustle me.

I am shocked people don't do this already. It takes me about 30 minutes to check a car out, and I make damn sure every single little ding and scuff is listed, both inside and out. I have no doubt the HQs are polished, but the managers of the actual locations will do everything in their power to not pay for things. Hell, I was accused of smoking in my car and they found "cigarette butts". Kind of hard to beat the defense of "I'm missing most of a lung and would probably die if I smoked cigarettes".

There’s a thing called normal wear and tear that’s to be expected with daily use of a car.

If an idiot dings the door in a parking lot, I didn’t cause it and couldn’t prevent it.

The entire rental car industry is a scam. Never rent a car. Always Uber or cab if you go to a big city for work or vacation

Milking the government tit I suppose . Were your colleagues as scrupulous as you?

It wouldn't be fair to compare me to my colleagues. I was kind of a nut on spending the governments money (outside of flights as I would have the citizens pay a bit extra to have a window seat), and would stay at hotels and in areas that were not the safest to save the taxpayers money. It almost got me into trouble wearing two sets of clothes home from one audit, I was sweating and it showed up on the scanning device where guns would typically be located.

This is when I start renting through the Turo.

So, in lieu of being charged for scuffs or marks from regular road stuff, I'm assuming 'for a small fee' you can opt out of that possibility? This is pure corporate greed. Hertz is going to force a lot of companies to remove them from the approved vendor list for corporate travel when a sales rep turns in an expense for an extra $400 charge for a fricking road stuff.

Screw Hertz. I hope this gets all the bad press in the world and it kills this movement.

I rented Hertz one time and they tried to not honor my reservation price. Luckily I had the printout in hand.

I've rented Enterrpise a lot. Had a transmission light issue on a new vehicle in Oregon/WA. Went back to the PDX airport on a Sunday and swapped it out. They gave me $350 off a $700 rental for my troubles.
