I'll give you an example of what kind of woman this is, and why you have so many assholes in here talking up their "rumors":
When I was a senior in the '80s, she came to one of our senior parties to hang out. Several of our teachers often did this, both male and female. She has always been into herpetology (amongst every other aspect of science), and I had just picked up a couple Tokay geckos - which weren't at all common back then. She hopped in my car and came over to my house. My parents are sitting there on the sofa in their robes late on a Saturday night, knowing that I'm off at a party, and suddenly the door opens and I come strolling in with my science teacher to show her my reptile collection. Now, would some dumbasses at the party start a rumor because my teacher left with me in my sports car? Yeah, some dumbasses probably would. But the fact that she had this type of relationship with her students is exactly why the world wasn't so fricked up in the '80s compared to today. Boundaries were different in the '80s and we were better for it. She had an interest in her students' lives, and that made her approachable. That mean that if a student was having some sort of difficulty, they'd be more likely to go talk to a teacher like her and benefit from her counsel rather than coming to school and shooting up the place. It's what made students go the extra mile to do well in her classes. It didn't make her a teacher that engages in misconduct - it made her a teacher that inspired students to become better students and people because of her level of caring and her teaching abilities. She's one of the main teachers who inspired me to follow a career in the sciences.

I didn't condemn. In fact, I said they were awesome. Two of my favorite teachers at HC. Eric Desormeaux and I went to Spain with Girard in 92. One of the best teachers I ever had for a subject I absolutely hated.

Why do I get the feeling that these relationships are increasing? I know it happened 25 years ago, but it just seems like this happens more and more.
anytime you got people together, there is gonna be some sex going on.
as for the reporting, it's repoted more cuz they get better ratings
used to be these stories rarely got out and mostly were found in detective magazines etc
but today, the newz sells sleaze, because of ___________ fill in the blank, too numerous

Holy Cross and all the other Catholic high schools need to learn from Jesuit on the basics of how to cover stuff up.... Because they're pros at it....

I have it on good authority that this was brought up basically because the mother of the "victim" is upset that her druggy son is a frick up at life, and wanted an excuse for him.
Apparently, there was a federal investigation of some sort that lasted several years involving more than just the relationship allegations. That investigation turned up nothing. After the conclusion of the investigation, the mother wasn't happy and went directly to the archdiocese.

That doesn't lead to this story. This isn't about pushing someone out. That would be ridiculous.
You will see that nothing becomes of this because it has already been thoroughly investigated on several fronts. As others have said, the junkie's mother got pissed at the dead ends and stirred shite with the archdiocese, which was leading to the "story" going public. She resigned to protect the school from the type of circus that you see demonstrated in this very thread. She could have retired long before now if she weren't so dedicated to the school. Resigning was a noble deed, not a confession.

She was a great teacher, but the email would not have been sent out without basis.
As someone who went there in the 80's, I have to say your story reeks of boundary issues. One can be a great teacher, mentor and potential confidant without hopping in a student's car to go to his house to see his lizards late on a Saturday night.

Do you know the accuser's name? Are you that close to the situation?
I'm not asking for a name, but you keep referring to a "junkie."

Man, just deny it and move on. There is NO WAY there is any evidence of this.
Also, what kind of sick frick tries to go back and claim this after 25 years?

I'm more interested in why you want to stoke the fire instead of put it out. The story only said "alleged misconduct" and that "she is no longer employed." That does not mean that she was "fired" for "misconduct." It means exactly what I said. The school has known about this allegation for years and obviously did not dismiss her. She resigned to protect the school. What part of that don't you understand? And I see nothing wrong with her boundaries other than the fact that it can lead to unfounded rumors like this crap. The school environment in the '80s wasn't anywhere as near as fricked up as it is today. Not by a long shot.

Jake keeps saying things like "boundary issues" like he's been thinking about this for a lot longer than the e-mail has been out.

All I said was that there were rumors about her during the 1980's. I'm not stoking anything. I've not added to the rumors and I've not made comments about the parties involved.
You've labelled the accuser a "junkie" and suggested there was some sort of conspiracy to push her out. That's going to attract responses.

I was speaking generally about boundary issues initially. He then provided a personal anecdote that was illustrative of boundary issues. That's all.

Definitely boundary issues. I think he still banging her out personally. That's why he is going so hard for her.

I know what you're getting at and all but anyone that's gone to HC in the last 30 years is probably shocked this wasn't a problem sooner than yesterday. I said it earlier in this thread. Ms. Lyons put herself in some positions that would make it terribly easy for a kid to cry foul play. That was just a product of her genuine interest in her students. Due to my friend's older brothers I heard rumors my entire 8 years at HC. She's a great person and I was some of her trips to Turtle Cove and Earth Day celebrations and I never got the "she wanted to do the students" vibe. She had her favorites. Every teacher does. It would be a real shame if all of this went down due to some crackhead spewing shite in a rehab session though.
And dk6, Batt was fired for pitching in a Legion district game against a weaker team to save his staff's arms. And apparently that wasn't the first time and he was supposedly warned multiple times and parents bitched.
