Stank BanK

Born in raised in a small town in north La where people are worshipped by how much money they have. Most of them never did anything but be born to get it.

And everyone knows everyone's business - hasn't changed in 30 years.

Alexandria... a town stuck in time. No better, no worse than the late 90's early 2000's. Lots of outdoor things to do, not much else

A bit different. I grew up in Arnaudville. Now it's got the LA31 brewery and the Little Big Cup.

Selma.

It’s a shithole now. Local rabble rousing politicians organized a protest at the public high school during what would hav been my junior and senior year (87-88). Protests got way out of hand and NG was called in. White flight like you can’t imagine. Selma High when I went there was maybe 55/45 or 60/40 at most black to white. Now there are less than a dozen white kids at a high school of 800 plus.
Last 3 democrat Mayors have bankrupted the town essentially. Last (current, who is NOT running for re-election) fired most of the Public Works departments and its turning into Somalia now.
Garbage isn’t being picked up, grass isn’t mowed, potholes will swallow a car. Genius mayor started building a Splash Pad (which isn’t finished, has no bathrooms, etc) on eroding bank of the River.

I’m old enough to understand it was never Mayberry when I was growing up there, but it was a decent small town to live in. Mall, skating rink, bowling alley and two screen movie theater provided some entertainment. It’s heartbreaking to see it now.

Born and raised on the westbank. The westbank has always been kinda trashy but Katrina really did a number on it. My town looks like Little Honduras now. It's not dangerous but the area has definitely taken a hit aesthetically and economically

I saw the thread title and was about to say the West Bank. Terrytown looks like shite. Utter shite. Trashy haggard people surrounded by deteriorating buildings and a generally aesthetically disgusting environment. Last time I was there, last month, I sensed a general hostility in the air. People just seemed angry and aggressive. Very aggressive driving too. I saw one wreck (Belle Chasse and Behrman) and several near misses. The whole area seems held together by spit and duct tape.

West Bank was never pretty but it was a decent enough place to grow up in the 80-90s. I guess Section 8 did what Section 8 always does. Plus the Fisher project trash was dispersed instead of contained in one place.

Speaking of places that haven’t changed. Sherwood Forest still very much the same. They have a mid century house in there I’d kill for it the inside is still in the 50s style on the inside.

Most of Sherwood was built in the late 60’s-70’s.

If you want to see dated, come see my house in Goodwood

Seems to be the direction most places are trending. Shocking that exporting jobs, importing poverty, dispersing trash via section 8, and subsidizing single parenthood could lead to deterioration. Shocking.

They now have a downtown park dedicated to colonel sanders.

And no longer in a dry county.

Otherwise it’s about the same

One of the owners of Radio/MCBG/Chelseas has a mid century house in town that is totally untouched. It was the house of an architect I believe. Sunked in living room, record player in the wall..

I would murder for that house

Our house is mid 70s. Still has a sunken living room although most of it has been updated multiple times.

Mean streets of Welsh. Havent lived there in 30 years. Go back and visit. Still the same. Crack came in the area in the 80s. Same problems if you want them. Just like anywhere. Still a great place to raise a family
