I just don't see why spanking is a necessity.

Alright. You brought it up. I think I might see why you think spanking is a good idea.

OK. You were right. I remain unconvinced.

I couldn't imagine ever hitting a child to teach them a lesson or whatever.
Issue resolvement by violence is a bad lesson to teach IMO.

and you are entitled to your opinion.
There are some situations that do not alow time for explanations. The threat of a spanking makes my son stop what he is doing immediately because he knows I am going to do it if he does not listen.
It works and it is for his protection.
It upsets me when I have to do it, but I am here to be a parent not a buddy.

You better do what I say or I'll hit you!
Pretty Substandard lazy parenting IMO.

Why do you have to do it?
You don't.

I do find it quite funny that the people against spanking generally use hyperbole and generalizations when making their argument, but at the same time always feel intellectually superior

What about you better do what I say or I take away your stuff, put you in time out, or let you do something you would like to do?
It's all the same just showing that actions have consequences.

Getting out of the chair to dole out a spanking requires effort. And I can do it without spilling my beer, that takes lots of practice.
are you entertained?

Like random children or your own kids? Bc I have 2 different opinions on that.

It teaches a child that it is OK to hit when you are angry or when you want to gain control of the situation. It teaches a child that the bigger person is in control and that their worth and value is not in their own hands.

Numerous studies have found that the destructive and far-reaching effects of spanking can follow a child long after the punishment has ended. Kids who are spanked are more likely to suffer from aggression, low self-esteem and low I.Q., and they also are more likely to suffer from substance abuse and domestic violence as adults.
