Ace, you da man. Great posts, one and all.

Stooping to character assassination. THIS is the type of response I expect from a person that has no point or is incapable of articulating it.

Anyone that says that human beings have a significant effect on the climate is either a sheople or actively pursuing an agenda using the pseudoscience of AGW/ACC.
I think its too early to tell honestly
to flat out deny man made global warming is just as ignorant as saying its 100% fact IMO

I certainly think there is climate change for a variety of reasons. I doubt it will have disastrous consequences though, in fact I think the opposite may be true.

of a made up theory.
I don't believe you understand the difference between a scientific theory and the average person's crock of shite "theory".
Wikipedia:
quote:
A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation. As with most (if not all) forms of scientific knowledge, scientific theories are inductive in nature and aim for predictive power and explanatory capability
With that out of the way, I have a few questions:
1)So you think that this "theory" is made up?
2)By whom? Al Gore?
3)Are you willing to say that you believe that the majority of the scientific community is in cahoots with lying about global climate change?
4)Do you own a tin foil hat? Are you a 9/11 "truther"?

Its been pretty awesome to be honest. We have way warmer winters now. Eastern Canada gets nailed with far worse weather while we have it much more mild. Have to worry about a bit more flooding in the spring than usual but nothing massive.

yes

2)By whom? Al Gore?
Al is a useful idiot. Scientists made this shite up when he was a kid.

3)Are you willing to say that you believe that the majority of the scientific community is in cahoots with lying about global climate change?
Yes. Emails proved what we already know, it was recognized by them as being a gov't grant cash cow. It's been greater than they ever imagined.

A question for you: Why hasn't earlier predictions come to fruition? ...and don't tell me about rising seas. There has been land loss due to erosion but no change inland where it can be monitored.
Another: Why do the scientists keep changing their predictions to match the current circumstances?

1)So you think that this "theory" is made up?
Not completely out of whole cloth. Just the wrong conclusions based on bad/massaged facts, from too small of a sample and leading to ludicrous results. If you go into something with a bias that CO2 is the only meaningful input, you're going to get that as an answer.
quote:
2)By whom? Al Gore?
IPCC is your bigger culprit here - they continue to foist and lead the science on this, as their funding is based wholly on this terrible hoax.

3)Are you willing to say that you believe that the majority of the scientific community is in cahoots with lying about global climate change?
Either directly in cahoots or coopted by the skeptic-shaming that has been going on. Either way, same result. There is some good science going on - and on both sides, but all of this is lost in the political noise (again, from both sides).

4)Do you own a tin foil hat? Are you a 9/11 "truther"?
I should ask you the same - I suspect FAR more "truthers" are on the far left and agree with AGW/ACC (perhaps even that it is intentional with W/Rove/Cheney and their black-folk-killing "hurricane" machine) than on the far right.
But, hey, nice attempt at name calling. Typical for the AGW crowd.

Ah yes, the 'ole email argument. How about the expert hired by the Koch brothers who researched and said "uh oh, not what you guys were wanting."
Or... the GOP senator from South Carolina who actually put some effort into studying the issue and is now a heavy campaigner for awareness and action.
I could go on, but I suspect we'd be wasting each other's time.

I read a few. Proof enough for me. I don't need anybody on either side telling me what to make of them.

Wait, you are going to trot out another politician as some kind of proof. Well please go on but using this kind of crap as some kind of proof only strengthens this denier.

It's made me hate Al Gore even more than I did before.

it annoys the shite out of me that we can never have a real discussion about global warming or climate change or whatever you want to call it without it becoming so goddamn politicized

Probably.
If you could answer a couple of questions, though:
1. What should CO2 concentrations be (and what is an acceptable tolerance band)?
2. What is the "right" mean surface temperature of the Earth (and what is an acceptable tolerance band)?

that's all the evidence I need!
How soon should I be expecting my PhD to arrive in the mail?

A scientific theory is basically a fact. It has been studied endlessly, results have been repeated many times, and most of the scientific community comes out with similar conclusions - that is the only way hypotheses become theories. To say that the majority of the scientific community is in on a hoax is laughable. Did you know gravity is "just a theory"?
Anyway, the questions weren't directed at you because you never claimed that the scientific theory is made up. If you want to talk about whether the science is skewed because of political agendas feel free, but take that to the Poli board. I made no mention nor gave indication of whether I'm liberal or conservative, but you made that assumption based upon my questioning how anyone could believe that global climate change is entirely made up and some vast hoax. If you know anything about the scientific method, then you know that this isn't just some nerd in a basement coming up with this stuff.

According to many, it doesn't affect me. But the FACT is that it 100% affects the culture in which I reside, and the future of said culture... so doesn't that mean I have no right to have an opinion on such matter, especially if it is negative? Wouldn't that make me an a-hole?
