Been thinking about pet insurance but haven't move on it yet.

If you have a breed that is prone to health issues, then get insurance asap. It also covers annual check ups and shots.

My Aussie saved my elderly parents from serious injury (mom fell, dad caught her, dog comes in lets me know there is a problem in the back of their house). So, I would feel obligated to spend some money on her. Thankfully, she is still in good health (and whacked the shite out of a water moccasin last week).

It is something to watch her work a venomous snake. She quickly bites the head, disabling it from being able to strike. Then she gives it a thrashing, then goes back to the head to mince it up.

She will bark, but leave alone, a non-venomous snake.

"How far would you go to save a loved on even if your actions would negatively affect the entire universe?"

Honestly for a younger dog (assuming you have some disposable income), most people I would think would be willing to spend several thousand.

But you have to understand 2/3rds of the country lives paycheck to paycheck. So that doesn’t make a lot of sense for everyone.

I have a 13 year old lab. I stopped drawing all lab work on her this year. Wouldn’t intervene regardless and don’t want to know if she’s dying. Just want to enjoy whatever time I have left with her. I would spend money for pain control and comfort measures but if she gets a major illness at this age, she’s sadly getting euthanized.

We have lost two Golden's to cancer. Both were around 11 years old and age was riding them pretty hard anyway.

Neither situation provided much hope for a long time recovery. We made the decision to let them go and made appointments when the end was near.

I did join a canine lymphoma group for the last dog. I was amazed at how many people threw down 5-10 thousands to give their dogs a another 6 months to a year. I had no appetite for that and felt somewhat guilty.

I would say the age of the dog and chances for a full recovery are the biggest factors for me.

That wasn't the question. That's literally not even close to a rational answer to OPs question

He ate a fricking rag and it ended up perforating his intestines.

Love dogs but never again.

I’ve spent $150 on his monthly shot for the past 10 years. He has Addison’s disease. Do the math

It's like this. If my cat was in a burning building with a human. There are four humans on Earth I would save before my cat. The rest of you? I'll come back for you if I can.

Why should a easily treatable issue mean it’s their time to go,?

You wouldn't spend $500 to save a dogs life, and make your kids happy? I can see someone on the spectrum thinking that $500 is more important.

Blows my mind that so many people think spending $300-500 on a pet is a lot. Annual vet care for my dog, things like vaccines and heart worm prevention is easily $500 a year.

We pay $25 a month. My dog had Cancer. Well we didn't know Cancer at the time but had to have emergency surgery to remove her Spleen.
$5,500 later and ins reimbursed us 5k. Definitely worth $25 a month.
