Find a wholesale jeweler and avoid the brick and mortar stores. Look first for a diamond with a nice cut. Then get the clarity and color good enough where it cannot be differentiated by the human eye (no one is ever going to use a scope on the diamond after it is bought). Then buy the size you feel comfortable paying for.

You're the one who picks out the ring. Pick whichever one you like and don't let anyone else bother you about it. Nevertheless, the usual $ amount to put on a ring is between $2000-3000. You don't really need to spend any more than that.

This is an easy problem to solve: Take her on a surprise shopping trip for a ring. Let her choose the ones she likes. You'll find out for sure what she wants and can discuss the best course of action.

eta: The biggest stone in the world won't save an ugly ring style.

I spoke with her at length and she said for me to shut up. She doesn't care she just wants to be married to me. She told me it doesn't make sense now but in 10 yrs we can upgrade. She took a very logical approach. She said why buy a fancy ring when you don't even own a place to live in. And if bitches got something to say, they can say it to her face.

That said she told me she wants a diamond band. One with the diamonds in the band and we can add on later in life but she doesn't really care. So I think I can get away with one of those for like $2,500 if I don't skimp.

She really is a wonderful woman.

I worked, saved, and bought a $8800 ring that appraised for $18k. Before that I went to a nice family jeweler and they showed me a diamond almost .5 carrots smaller, more colored, and not as great a shine for almost 8k more. Screw that nonsense

All I can say is find an independent jeweler or a family ring and itll save you thousands.

I've always wanted a Moissanite ring. It looks just like a diamond, actually has more sparkle than most diamonds, and is just barely under a diamond in hardness.

You can get a massive one for a very good price.

Because that's how the real world works. It's easy to be tight on a message board but in reality his wife wants a ring similar to her peers

How ever much it takes to get her a nicer ring than the other girls she socializes with the most. That's all she's worried about

I mean, it's one thing to get her a Kmart ring but if a chick balks at a reasonably priced ring it probably means you've got a lot of problems coming down the pipeline.

What does that have to do with thinking an $8000 spending minimum is dumb?

Agreed but reasonably priced depends on things like income and social class
