re: How old do you believe the Earth is?

The Earth can be billions of years old and the Bible be 100% correct. Genesis 1:1 ends with a period. The gap theory suggests there’s a gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. Also, in Genesis 1:2, the word “was” in the Hebrew is “became.”

The Roman Catholic Church has no issue with an old earth. It has no issue with accepting Genesis as allegory.
It was not until fundamentalist protestants came along and denied all sources of authority other than the Bible (including tradition, apocryphal texts, and, yes, science) that you started getting all of these cockamamey theories about an earth that a few thousand years old.
I'll get downvotes for this, but I invite anyone to identify three scientists in the world who are not Christians but believe that the earth is 6-10k years old.
I'll hang up and listen. And yes, I am a Christian.

Do your own research, pal.

For the bible types, I don’t think an old earth would be inconsistent.
God apparently made Adam a grown man. I doubt he had no teeth or baby teeth just because technically he was a day old.
I’d think the same would apply to the earth. For the earth to function it would probably need all the attributes of being created naturally.
Do you think his body had any scars on day 1?
Do you think his teeth or joints had any evidence of wear?
Do you think his body had any evidence whatsoever of being born, growing, and living for years, or do you think it was pristine?
Adam's body definitely wouldn't need planted evidence which suggested it was older than it was in order to function. Why would a brand new pristine earth need evidence of a long history of turmoil, impacts, etc in order to function?

Adam didn’t have a belly button.

It really brings out the best
I have seen so far a profound misunderstanding of
Physics
Evolution
Scientific Theory
Carbon dating
and that was just browsing about three pages.

It’s not the age of Earth so much as death before sin. If death, disease, earthquakes, etc., existed before Man, then Man is not the cause of these things.
Christians believe bad things happen because sin cursed the world, but this is clearly not the case. We would still suffer and die no matter how righteous we might be.
If Man did not cause the suffering of the world, then he is not responsible for it. If he is not responsible for it, there is no need for a savior.
Original Sin is incompatible with evolution. So is Noah’s Ark. And it wasn’t until modern science developed that Christians began to retreat on the literal truth of these stories.

My favorite was the "Micro" vs "Macro" evolution argument like they were separate.

It's only "The Matrix" that makes us believe the earth is 6000 or 5 billion years old.

I think that is exactly what happened. Man is made in God's image and at some point in the evolution of man from walking upright God decided to create from all the previous versions someone more in tune with who God really is with the ability to think in complex terms and make decisions. That is what separates us from the apes.
And more so, why else are primates still on planet Earth and why didn't they evolve with humans if this wasn't true?
lol
I look at it as the fall of Adam represents that point in human evolution when consciousness is developed to the point where man has a self-awareness and can contemplate his own mortality. Man became more dependent on conscious thought and less so on innate instincts. It's this consciousness that imbibes man with the responsibility to care for "every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

Dammit! I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I’m part of the bird drone cabal. My job is to mention birds in random internet threads to reinforce the sheeple programming. Don’t tell anyone, pls.
