My mother worked with a direct decedent. She has had nothing to say but this person was an outstanding person and yes they were protected. I have the distinction of being old friends with a great descendent. In the several years of friendship, I never heard a word of the family dealings. Looking back, from my 20-something point of view at the time it seemed like the family moved on. I didn’t learn of the connection until years later when they had moved out of state. So I guess to answer the question, I have nothing sufficient to add to the OP’s question other than hearsay.

So you never rolled out to Pat O’s or Cat’s, etc with your crew acting like you own the place?

read Mafia Kingfish years ago. Pretty convincing to me that he was involved.
Anyone who thinks the mafia killed sitting President JFK, and the government was NOT in on it, and the government did NOT scorched earth the mafia, is a pretty low IQ anyone.

I thought it was Eric Kumerow?

Mr. New Orleans
I really enjoyed this book. Have to take what the guy says with a grain of salt, but pretty amazing if a fraction of it is true, and I don’t think he could make it all up. He claimed to have ties with Marcello.

Dated his granddaughter a long time ago. She was a beautiful amazing young lady. I was very immature at the time but still smart enough to know not to ask any family questions.

He gave my grandfather a very well paying job at Beverly in 1945

Was your grandfather Sammy?
No, but I think he handled the books for him but I could never get a distinct answer from family.

There was a thread on here several years ago that had Marcello stories. What happened to it?
Used to hang out with his niece. She was Eduardo's granddaughter

Only know what I have read. Powerful, but only in the south/nola. Held almost absolute control over the areas.
If he had went against the NE he probably would have been smacked down and put in his place. The NE guys had lots of respect for him and let him run his business.
Wasn’t there a point where your power had to basically be “approved” by the families in Europe / Italy? Like a boss may have wielded more or less power because of his connections with those “back home?” They’d have the ultimate say in major decisions and such?

My grandmother had pictures of Carlos and my grandfather all over her house. One would assume from the pictures that they were related or very close friends. My grandfather died before I was born and Carlos a few years after. All my grandmother and parents ever knew (or would say) was that my grandfather worked for Marcello.
Carlos Marcello was the best man in my cousin’s great Aunt’s wedding. He showed me the pic a while back. Carlos used to hangout in Abbeville quite a bit.

I went to high school with a kid back in the 80's who was driving a Porsche to school at 16 who was somehow related to Carlos.

An old fishing buddy of mine from Abbeville was a cousin of the Marcelo family. He would just smile and say it was true and had heard a lot of fascinating stories. I really didn’t want to hear them.
Yes, Marcelo had a lot a lot of ties to Abbeville. Vermilion Parish has a lot of open marshland with a history of smuggling.

ChestRockwell, I worked with Joe's son for a few years before his death from cancer. He was the chef where I work, and a super cool guy, we talked a lot. I miss him.
My Mom went to high school with Carlos' daughter at Holy Name of Mary. At the time the Marcellos were actually living on First Street in Harvey, next to my cousins' cleaners. If Mom and her friends were waiting on the Fourth Street bus and Carlos' daughter was leaving the house, being driven, they'd stop and take Mom and friends to school.

How was that possible from NOLA?
Obviously you don’t know the history of the mob in NOLA.
Did you know the term Mafia was coined in NO?

Cool story. I believe the owner(s) of B&G Crane on Central Ave in Jefferson were from the same neighborhood, and were allegedly mobbed up too.
