Cherry picked stats or as we learned at my business school -- garbage statistics.

As an engineering student I would say Law school is slightly above engineering, and both are way above an MBA.
This is so asinine, I won't even fully elaborate. They are all different degrees that serve different purposes.
One thing that both the MBA and law degree have in common is that the prestige of your program matters a lot. Grades at most top business schools do not matter though and most programs have grade non-disclosure.

Agree if his end goal is NYC for IB. If he wants to live in the south, then I think it opens up McCombs a bit more.
I know and work with people from many of the Top 15 and across the board they had good experiences. Funny enough, the one person who didn't love his MBA experience went to Stanford and he is one of the rare few that got into both HBS and GSB.

Mays is firmly in the top 25-35 bucket. There is nothing wrong with that but it just has nowhere near the prestige of a Top 20. Yes, there is a big difference between T20 and T25 in terms of prestige. At the top of the hill, you might have people that say prestige matters a lot less once you get out of the top 10.
Specifically:
Harvard
Wharton
Stanford
Booth
Kellogg
Haas
Columbia
Tuck
Sloan
Next grouping...
Yale (will jump into the next bucket within a decade)
Fuqua
Darden
Ross
McCombs
Anderson
Next group...
Goizueta
Kelly
Kenan-Flagler
Foster
Mays
...etc.
That's my rough take after researching this nonsense for five years

Apologizes, auto correct got me stats masters.
On another note, where does UT rank vs A&M?

That's probably about right, although I'd put Mays more in that bucket with U of Washington, Ohio State, etc. - big public schools with programs that do really well in certain industries.
It seems like the top six (GSB, HBS, Booth, Wharton, Kellogg, Sloan) almost never move; they just shuffle spots around. Stern seems to have dropped a lot over the last few years, and I don't know why.

Since when is a law degree prestigious?
Posted on 1/24/17 at 5:37 pm to Restomod
They are far more prestigious than engineering degrees.

If you don't get off the wait list at Kellogg, Tuck and Fuqua are both good options. Can't go wrong with either of those. It'd have to be a pretty generous financial package for me to consider Anderson and McCombs over those two, to be perfectly honest - especially considering cost of living in LA and Austin.
You pretty much nailed my *potential* future dilemma. McCombs and Anderson are a free ride for me (GI Bill). We will have to see what happens.

Nailed it. End goal is to live in the south, hence Fuqua > Tuck if I get in to both. I'm also not really looking at banking in NYC - would prefer Charlotte or Chicago.
I'm really hoping I get lucky and get off the WL at Kellogg. I recently got promoted at work so I had a good update to my profile, but it's pretty much luck at this point.

Are you a white guy? Getting into Kellogg keeps getting harder and harder. Average GMAT gets in the 730ish range which is nuts.
Posted on 1/24/17 at 8:08 pm to lynxcat
What if I'm white, 740 GMAT, 3.4 undergrad GPA, and 7 years experience? Best I can tell I'm run of the mill at the top ten schools.

Undergrad slightly on the low side unless in engineering. 7 years experience is on the very high side for full time programs. Typically 4-5 years is the sweet spot. 7 is more common with working professional programs.
You could definitely get in a Top 10 though.

Slightly? It's straight up not good considering it's a general business degree.

Harvard, Booth, Stanford, Kellogg, or Wharton? I applied to HBS right out of undergrad, got declined, and went to work.

3.4 is low in business. But, your GMAT might get you into Kellogg or Booth. I doubt HWS would be an option.
You could definitely do Columbia, Tuck, Ross, Yale, Stern. There are only a few places that wouldn't see the 740 and click accept honestly.

As an engineer I don't really see a MBA giving me anymore benefit than a PE and this crap pmp license

The new building is unreal. Kellogg is in a great spot right now.
