I’m thinking macro.
Boomers have voted for boomer politicians who voted more & more benefits/wars/etc. for themselves via skyrocketing national debt which will ultimately destroy the country.

this, x1000, my 34 year old daughter(no pics,) is doing pretty good for herself, her house is paid for, she's got a pretty good chunk put away for a pension, drives a new car, travels all over the world, caught me a proud wth this one

We are apparently just "boomers" despite me being 43
The difference between us is that I really AM a boomer. Have a 4 yr. business degree, but don't use it in the professional sense. I do handyman work, am a bit too lazy, had twin daughters at 42... Retirement is not likely to ever happen for me. But I think the real answer instead of keeping my head down and plugging away is to get on the internet and whine about how tough it is.
At this point, I'd like to think pride87 is just trolling... Sadly,

My oldest granddaughter is an academic, her brother is going to trade school after he graduates HS this year. It fits both of them well.
Very proud of both. But I also teach them skills to enhance their quality of life.

They will not.
Too many studies have been done to argue this point. My generation, X'ers, will be the last generation to be able to equal or exceed our parents.
There are many different reasons for this. Baby Boomers are indeed to blame for much of it if only because they were such a large generation. So large that the money put into circulation just to pay them/them to live, drove inflation their entire adult lives. It will get even worse as they retire and begin to pull imvestments out of the economy without contributing back to it. GenX just does not even come close to having the numbers to keep up and Millenials have not reached peak earning potential yet so the contributions they can make aren't as good as needed.
Housing shortages is a big issue. Local governments are now concentrating on high volume units as opposed to single family homes. Most markets have a large shortfall on housing. The concentration of the population into larger cities is only escalating this.
I am still not sure why automotive prices are skyrocketing. Supply issues? Not really buying that one unless it is artificial.
Of course some of this we bring upon ourselves. It isn't just the younger generation. All generations strive to live at a comfort level they are used to. There are now many more cost increases just to maintain that level of comfort. Cell phones, internet, satellite TV are just a few things that were not around when I was in my 20's (at least not everyday things), but my son and his friends would never think to cut these in order to save for a home. Do I blame them? Nope. I did not cut out the creature comforts I was used to at that age either.
Politics plays a big role as well. People can keep playing "teams" here, but neither the GOP nor the Dems will fix this. Neither side wants to and we make it worse the more we ask them to do. Every single President since I was voting age (1988) has promised to fix our infrastructure and schools. Every single time legislature pass tax increases and nothing ever happens. But every single cent we pay in taxes is less money we have to spend and with things like phone tax, sporting goods excise tax, gas tax, etc there are over 220 federal taxes. We have an actual higher tax burden than most European countries. We just do not realize it and we keep asking for more.
What can be done? Nothing short of a collapse will help us now and it is coming. Being married to a woman who has lived through and seen the collapse of her country is eye opening. Also because she lived through a color revolution lets me know it has already started here. TPTB know it is coming and are positioning themselves to save themselves. They most likely will not be able to do that unless they flee and even then, when the greatest empire the world has ever seen falls, the world will be affected.
Buckle up boys and girls. It is about to get fun.

Um, I don’t I don’t consider myself “youth”. I am 36 and already established on a second home. I had it far easier than those just 10-15 years younger than me. Not a question

Why is everyone referencing Millennials in this thread? We're old as frick at this point. Most everyone I know is doing well, it's Gen Z that's fricked.

I have a 31 year old guy that works where I work, he's got almost 100k not counting retirement accounts, he's about to quit and travel the world for a year. Hes just got a history degree.
He's extremely frugal, its kind of impressive.

Gen Z cant figure out if they are a boy or girl, I doubt they are thinking about financial security 10 years down the road.
