Just checked her fb again. Still no new posts from her. She has gotten a few more posts from fb friends asking her is she is ok and she hasn't responded to them. I'll keep checking her fb and update on here if I see anything.
worrisome I hope all is well.

The worst would have been past her by 8 or 9 last night, at the latest. She was getting the eyewall around 4ish, I think. If she was okay at 1:00am this morning, she's almost certainly okay now. If she was having wind driven flood water problems I think it would have started long before 1.

USS wasp
I think that's the one that was at Navy Week here in NOLA a couple of years ago. That's a bad arse boat.

It was. They gave great tours. Well worth the wait in line.

Ummm... You do realize that particular island is 1200 miles from Miami right? Where are you going to launch your extremely long range helicopters that don't currently exist from? In addition every place close that can provide support is probably damaged.

In addition to paratroopers, the US military has ships called LHDs - Landing Helicopter Dock. They have a flight deck to accommodate helicopters, Ospreys, Harriers and eventually F-35s. They can launch a variety of amphibious assault craft from their well deck. They come in very handy for humanitarian aid missions, as well as amphibious assaults.
Even better is that since Friday, two LHDs and an LSD are already on station at the USVI. How far is that from St Martin? And the Wasp has the 26th MEU onboard - that's 600 or 700 Marines ready to help or kick arse, whichever is most necessary.
Also, the Abraham Lincoln and other support ships are on their way to Key West to help unscrew the situation in the keys.
If folks were in danger I was just thinking that Paratroopers could be on site faster.

On the topic of boats, news here in Charleston says the Folly Boat, which washed ashore during Hurricane Hugo and has been a local landmark ever since, has been washed back out to sea by the flooding from Irma. And we're only getting the outer bands from the storm.
No power for me but otherwise no problems. I was not expecting any packages, though.

Not sure we can "invade" foreign sovereign territory even to help tourist who scheduled a Caribbean vacation in the middle of hurricane season.

I'm just coming here to vent and didn't want to start a thread on it. I was expecting a package that shipped Thursday from Orlando. No updates on the tracking except "in transit" and USPS is useless as usual. Maybe my package will come in tomorrow and this post is unnecessary. I have a gut feeling that I'll never see it.
Prayers sent.

I too have lost power.
Fortunately, I've got plenty of beer on ice, some water too.

Wind gusts in the Athens GA area up to 50mph. Hard sideways rain. We still have power and no roof leaks.

I saw this and some guy on the local news said it wrecked his dock but they saved the boat. The coastal flooding in Charleston was bad from what I've seem on the news. I left downtown before it got bad and retreated to the Ville. Have power here and some limbs down. Feel lucky compared to what I'm hearing out of Florida.

Judging from what I got, Liz has trees down all around in every neighborhood and main road. Official response is doing what they can but are slow due to massive amounts.
Baws are cranking up the Stihls and making it happen. Many places here are still flooded so I imagine they are still screwed down there.
She is up to her arse in alligators so I bet FB is low priority but she will be heard from tomorrow.
Thanks for trying nurse.

I would be very happy and surprised if all of the bridges remained intact.

Folly Boat was like 'frick it I'm out.'

This seems to be much worse than Matthew last year regarding flooding in Charleston. Surge happened right at high tide. I had a tree crush my fence but never lost power. Water came a good bit higher than last year. Had some a-hole driving around our neighborhood making wake - saw his arse 5x
