It's a question of how soon they can realistically get more in. They don't want to add to the population until they can get boats and trucks and enough helos bringing supplies in. It's a wide area to cover.
Anyone who stays for a hurricane - rich, poor, dumb, smart, and everyone in between - ought to know that they may need to be self sufficient for the next week. Likewise, anyone going back after a storm should know that they need to bring in everything they might need.
If we let the ill prepared idiots die of dehydration (or whatever) it might cut back on future rescue operations.

Still no power for me.
Some big limbs came down but nothing major for now.

Heard a transformer blow a second before I lost power here in Forest Acres.

Still nothing in the northern suburbs if Atlanta other than rain.
Wife's aunt in South Georgia, Leesburg, lost power early this morning. Haven't heard if it's back on yet.

The southern suburbs got hit pretty good. Lots of trees down and people without power.

I hear ya, but some of the people that stayed are 85 year old people with no families and whatnot. They sheltered in schools, and now have no homes, water, or food. We should probably not let those types die of dehydration.

Right. She said she was east of I-75, off of East Terry by the YMCA.
Glad to see the water isn't too high. I'd guess it should be gone before too long.

So whatever happened to Lee? At one time we were concerned about it potentially getting into the gulf. I wasn't really paying any attention to it while Irma was approaching and now it's just gone while my back was turned.

Saw your pics before, but missed the maps first time around. Liz mentioned living near the Y in one of her posts, so that area is right I her wheelhouse.
Apparently, the Imperial River can be a troublespot. I heard it mentioned before the storm and saw a live shot from a news crew the night before at a kayak rental place. They were talking about how high the river was already.
I don't know the story on the "Critical Flowpath", but that sounds like trouble in stormy weather.

Birmingham has just been getting hit with rain so far today.

I was surprised the storm surge went that far inland. But yeah, with the River..makes it tough to tell and it makes it extremely tricky to know how far out north/south of the river overflowed and water went out

Power finally out here in north Georgia. About two hours ago, our weather went from raining all day and 20 mph winds to pouring and 40-50mph gusts.
Lost a couple of my big bushes in the front yard. frick it, I'm going to bed.

12 hrs without power here in Marianna. Borrowed a generator and spent 5 hrs getting it to run. Thanks to the internets I now know how to troubleshoot a small gas engine and rebuild a carberator ??
And now, wine. Lots of red wine.
