If I didn't have family here I wouldn't stay here

Let's be honest though this is compared to the rest of the state and not compared to most Texas City/Towns/Burbs. While I agree that the Lafayette Parish School District is the best top to bottom in the state it still pales in comparison to most ISD's in Texas.
Thing is...that's not what he asked, was it? He asked if he was to move back to LA, so I answered the question asked.

I have two in LP schools, live and work in the Broussard/Youngsville area. The above is not a slight in the least bit, but if I were offered similar money to go to McKinney/Allen/Frisco/Waco/Austin/San Marcos.... I would have a Penske truck at my house as soon as I accepted the offer sheet.
I can certainly see an argument for that, but I'm not a fan of Texas despite having been born there. There were times in my life where I could have been convinced to move elsewhere, but I've put real roots down now and have done so in a place that I'm happy with. I don't begrudge anyone that wants to move out of LA and I'd certainly never tell anyone not to move back if it's what they want to do.

I considered moving back for a couple of minutes once, but then quickly came to my senses.

St. James Parish. Nestled between BR and NOLA there is plenty of work available and 30 mins from BR or NOLA if you feel a need to see Professional or college sports and enjoy what the two big cities have to offer.

North of 190 and On up (pointe Coupee/WBR) on the west side of the Mississippi near Baton Rouge and/or West/East Feliciana areas....

Austin is great, but the influx of people from CA and New England is driving the housing market up a lot. Wages aren't keeping up with market prices and soon I believe the bubble will burst. I'm getting to the point where i'd like to buy or build and don't want to raise kids 7 hours from their grandparents.
I know Louisiana sucks in a lot of ways, but just wondering if there are any areas that meet those criteria.

If you aren't a poor live in St. Francisville, or surrounding area, on a few acres and just commute to BR for schools and work. Its only an hour and against the flow of traffic.

Ferriday or Tallulah
Jk...lol.
Vidalia.
But I'd love to live either somewhere isolated in the hills around N or W la. Or somewhere isolated down in S la with access to both fresh and brackish water... But, here I am, stuck in the middle. But it ain't bad. I enjoy the Vidalia/ Natchez area.

realistic home/land prices?
What does this mean?
Lafayette probably fits your criteria, but I don't know if I could live there again.

I don't get why like these places so much, I get that they are nice and have great massive schools and feel the need for 65 million dollar high school football stadiums, but its because they are new cities. designed from the ground up. Cookie cutter houses and neighborhoods, filled with chain restaurants and shopping centers. Its all too fake for me. no culture, very few family restaurants, no history to the city no culture. like I said sure its nice but its way to fake for me. plus I bet the people suck and are as fake as the city.

its better than being 10 miles away from downtown yet still taking an hour, or living in Prairieville and sitting in traffic for an hour trying to get home down airline.

What does this mean?
It means not paying to live somewhere when I may be able to get a significantly higher quality of life in another town without paying the same amount.
AKA Not New Orleans
