Serious question because I would love to move to Eastern TN/WNC, are there any plants or refineries in the area?

There is(are) over 1600 different plants in great Smoky mountains national Park alone.

Non-serious answer

How are the Boise winters? Vacationed in Sun Valley years ago, and have Boise on my list to retire.

Extremely mild. You will see snow, but it rarely sticks around longer than a week. The winter before we got here (2016-2017) they called snowpocalypse. And that is only because Boise was seeing such mild winters for such extended periods of time that they sold all of their equipment to other local jurisdiction and lease them out when they needed. This resulted in not having enough supplies and equipment to keep the roads free of snow and ice. The winters we have been here we haven't needed snow tires when driving.

The Treasure Valley is expected to explode in the next few decades. If you are looking to retire in peace and quiet, unless you have a large chunk of change and can afford a few acres on the outskirts of town, it's not ideal. But considering you said you were vacationing in Sun Valley, you may actually be an OT Baller.

Tl:dr If you got the $$, come one up. Winter is fine.

We live in the Tri-cities and it's got all the comforts of suburbia with a 90 minute drive to Asheville or Knoxville but tucked right up into the mountains.

The drive on 26 between Asheville and the Tri-Cities is GORGEOUS. Back in my BC days, it was a 2 lane windy curvy road.

How's lake Glenville?
Lake Glenville is great. It is not very big. We rented a house on the lake last summer; there were 13 of us.

Rent a boat at the marina. Some good places to eat in Cashiers & Highlands. Lot of places to hike and waterfalls to see.

I'm in Pigeon Forge this weekend, and we had similar weather. Like 75 and overcast. It was pretty pleasant.

I wonder how many of y’all I see when you visit this area and don’t even realize it. I bet I have interacted with a few of y’all

We need some kind of code to let others know we’re TD aficionados.

Thanks. Sounds nice, actually. The older I get, mid-size cities are a perfect fit for me. You can get 95% the convenience of Seattle for example, without the headache. I like Boise because of what is within 2 hours.

Asheville, North Carolina is the shite. Go grab a beer at the bar inside the Grove Park Inn - the view is insane. Also, look up one of the companies that will rent you a tube at the top of the French Broad River. Throwing a tube in the river and floating downstream while drinking beer all day is amazing.

Going next week. Rafting on Nantahala, French Broad tubing, craft beer drinking. Love it up there.
