No one really lives in the city limits so the numbers aren't really indicative of the truth

I mean you're not wrong. The same can be said about for New Orleans,Detroit, and St. Louis. All have low crime wealthy suburban areas. Saying Monroe is some kind of crime free middle American utopia is statistically inaccurate.

Don Chuy's where the old Duck Diner was is the best of the 50 Mexican eating places in the parish.

Absolutely not.
New place in the shopping mall that West Monroe Brookshire’s is in.
It’s called Mi Casa Grande and is superior to any Mexican place within 50 miles. Guarantee it.

I left in 98. It was sucking wind then. I can’t imagine how bad it is now. I think the city government is run by all black people so draw your own inferences from that.

Johnny’s back in the day was legit. The franchises decreased the quality over the last 10-15 years. Now the labor shortage has made the quality of the staple locations go to shite.

When one thinks Monroe, La is better than New Orleans, La (and considering I am Nola through and through…and deploying safety changes given its out of control thugs and criminal justice)… Might be reflection time on your soul, how short life is, and why you are on this Earth. Good Lord

While I’d never live in Monroe, I did live in Nola for a few years. Company I’m currently working for would require me to move back to Nola once my project is over….that won’t happen unless the piggy bank opens bc no chance I’m moving back to Nola (will buy on the northshore before I live in Nola again) currently

Nice place. Most everyone is friendly. You won’t get mugged or carjacked. Traffic is light. And there’s plenty of good restaurants.

You can’t possibly be talking about Monroe. It’s a shite hole lol

For 2 years, I lived within walking distance of that Brookshires. It’s not a bad area at all. Quaint, quiet, country as hell.

Monroe has a great food scene and there is plenty to do, despite what some of the OT says.

Restaurants:

Warehouse #1 (Upscale with the best steak in Monroe)
Cotton (Upscale with great steak etc)
Parish (Upscale with great food)
Genusa's (Italian)
Doe's Eat Place (second-best steak in Monroe)
Catahoula's (Cajun-ish)
Geno's (Italian)
Enoch's (Pub Food)
Lea's (Lunch)
Cascio's (Italian)
Waterfront Grill (Great everything)
Latin Food Restaurant (West Monroe-name should explain it)
Mohawk Tavern (good oysters and seafood)

Bars/Breweries:

Flying Tiger
Landry's Vineyards (Calhoun)
Flying Heart (West Monroe)
Brass Monkey
Airport Lounge

Outdoors:

Forsythe Park
Lincoln Park (Ruston)
Black Bayou
Bayou Desiard
Kiroli Park (West Monroe)

Hunting/Fishing:

Russell Sage
Black Bayou
Bayou Desiard
Lake Darbonne (Farmerville)
Ouachita River

Museums:

Biedenharn Museum and Gardens
Masur Museum
Northeast Children's Museum
Chennault

If you're just in town for a few days, you should have lunch at Lea's and dinner at the Warehouse. Check out Chennault Air Museum and have drinks at the Flying Tiger or Enoch's.

No matter what anyone local tells you stay the frick away from Johnnys. God that place sucked.

Field house, trapps, and waterfront were Al seats my favorites in college. Daily press is amazing as well. A lot of good food options. Everything else is meh. Good fishing if you’re into it.
