I find that people have an obsession with “finding something they like” instead of finding something that can provide a living or career.

Must be a generational thing.

I was raised old school and I never considered what I liked. I considered what I could do that paid money for the skills I had.

People who struggle to find something “they like” generally are worthless. Your career isn’t Baskin Robbins. You don’t keep trying flavors till you find one for your mood.

So this is the worst kind of professional or personal advice you could ever give.

There's nothing wrong with a desire to do something you find meaningful.

LOL thats real talk. Go excel making 42k the rest of your life chasing your dreams or go find a real skill that’s marketable that can drive a career.

But sure. Do what you enjoy. World needs sidewalk painters too I suppose.

There is a new program called Compete La. If you have previously gone to some school, been out of school for more than 2 years and you are a Louisiana resident then you qualify. In the UL based schools, they offer tuition set at 275 per hour. There is an App to download and go from there. I think it’s 9 different schools you can choose from. UL, ULM, Northwestern, La Tech and a few more.

There are a lot of jobs that just have a Bachelors's degree as a minimum requirement. A General Studies degree will fulfill that. Also, most General studies degrees aren't called that anymore, so you don't need to put General studies on a resume.

Kinda harsh, don’t you think?I worked some crappy jobs in high school because I had no skills.I struggled finding a career I liked and found it fairly young, thanks to the Navy.I graduated nursing school at age 25 and had a good career that I’ve never regretted.
I worked with a lot of nurses that liked their jobs, also worked with some that didn’t like it.
If you ever end up in ICU,I promise you would rather have a nurse that likes their job.
My point is,a person that like their job is going to do a better job. They’ll have better work relationships, better family relationships, just generally be a better person.
It’s just a shame that it takes some people so long to find their niche.
Some of the most miserable people I’ve ever known were people doing jobs they hated but were only in it for the paycheck.

Zero sum game right here.

Have you considered the fricking possibility that one could find something that is simultaneously enjoyable and profitable?

Or that money is not the primary motivation or concern?

Depends on your profession. I had an employee that i encouraged to finish a general studies degree just so he could get past corporate HR to find a better job. Project management / IT related field.

Exactly what I did/am doing. I have an associates Tech and have taken basically all the necessary programming courses, but the 4 year degree stacked with it helps. If not for the Tech degree no chance would I do GS.

I think it's a 2 way street. Most people want to find a balance between what they want and what pays the bills.

Only if you take it further and get an MBA or similar advanced degree. Bachelors in General Studies was OK in the 70's or 80's but you will just be passed over time and again by others.

I always love the morons that marginalize and trivialize the legitimate educational pursuits of others based on their own pre-conceived notions.

Some really great worthwhile degrees: psychology, mass comm, sociology. Gender studies is a booming field.

And then you can go to law school. The world always needs more lawyers.

frick online college. The real value in college tuition is getting to to taste that sweet college poontang. You're the perfect age too. More mature than those immature frat boys, but not too old to be considered creepy. Wait til covid passes. Enroll at LSU. frick some hoes, and become an Engineer in the process. Don't waste time with that general studies BS.

Just lie and say you have one on your resume. Nobody checks that shite

What? Yes they do. Universities had a personal responsible for pulling the records when background check companies call. Starting a different major or gpa, you may be able to get away with, but you cannot say you graduated when you did not. That’s the one think they check.
