Coming from a lawyer this is quite entertaining.

And a banker. You see, someone has to finance these projects that you simply check boxes for. Then, someone has to defend you in court when you accidentally schedule the concrete to be poured before running the plumbing.

You're about to get an invite to sonic baw

But I have considered trying to go back to law school with a construction background and specialize in that. There is so much litigation involved.

Wouldn’t be a bad move. There are so few lawyers that actually know anything about the area they practice in.

so these graduating guys (girls) are sporting 3.75+ GPAs and are fully emmersed in the program.

I have to take your word for it but I met several Auburn grads and they weren't no 3.75 people. Maybe 3.2.

I have no idea were the LSU BSC school ranks or what the "A" level Lousiana GCs pay.

I had multiple offers my last semester and they ranged from $45k to $61k back in 2013.

The program has changed but it was essentially a joke when I went through. Teachers didn't bother changing the tests much at all so you had all the tests for each class. Not sure if that still exists but it did then and the teachers knew. It was more so encouraging interaction among your peers as you wouldn't get that information if you were a loaner. I was one of the few people my junior year who got into the honor society which was confusing since we all had the tests. I'd say the average GPA for CM grads at LSU is 2.75 - 3.0

et into industrial and you can make whatever you want

This.

There is commercial cm where the hours suck many times and there is industrial where they are awesome except during turn arounds.

It is a great field but like engineering, your career will be very much determined you and the ability to interact with others, manage others and we'll make money for your employer.

Learn to sell, estimate and manage and you will never not make good money on the industrial side.

Get into project controls and then get on the owners side and promote into project management. I am currently working the most fun role Ive had as a regional construction manager in the sales and marketing department aka retail for an oil company. As an added bonus I work from home.

I really want to work from home. I was told this essentially doesn't exist in construction. How does one find their way there?

I'm a CM baw. I think it's a good field to get into if you have interest in it. I work in the office/field 50/50 which isn't always the same which I like, hours aren't terrible for me (though usually they are), pay is pretty good for me, you work with good people, and you're helping with building things which is rewarding.

Overall I think it's a good field. There are days where I absolutely hate it and wanna tear my hair out, and there are other days where everything is good and it isn't too bad.

However, like I said, you have to have heavy interest in the construction field. I never really did and still don't, which would make my job WAY WAY more enjoyable if I did. I just did CM because I didn't have any interest in any other field. Seems like a lot of people have the same problems though.

In a similar position. I chose it in college because it was easy but I regret not pushing myself to do something more academically challenging, but I didn't have the perspective then that I do now. I classify it as my job because it helps pay the bills and still a little left over, but I don't light up the same way that others do when they discuss it. I try so hard to "love" it, but it's tough for me to reach that point. I'm only 28 though so lots of life left. It doesn't have to be completely figured out now.

Regional commercial construction management would appear to have the mpst work from home jobs, however the pay seems to be all over the place. I was recently talking with circle K about a regional position managing 7 direct reports and 2600 sites and they wanted to pay like 80k a year......they promoted some unlucky schmuck from within because they are wayyyyyy underpaying

i work for an industrial GC. We had an intern work for us for 1.5 years, full time during breaks, part time during school. The day he graduated, he got bumped from $15/hr to $32/hr. 6 months after that, he got bumped to $35.

It's very possible. put in the time and make sure you intern

Where is he/she looking? This is currently an employee market, especially South LA and Texas.

No use arguing with him. Hes dead set on the fact that no one can make 70k+ base salary right out of college which is just plain wrong.
