I definitely had crawfish in Monroe before. Hell it’s everywhere around Houston now too. It’s not really a South Louisiana exclusive thing anymore.

North LA is a hellscape with all of Louisiana’s problems and none of its (extremely few to begin with) advantages.
quote:you literally just painted a SLA picture.
North LA has nothing to offer but a bleak, barren landscape full of abandoned towns and speed traps. It seriously should not exist.

I can buy boiled crawfish all season in Bay St Louis as well, the lifestyle and the food here is different than south Louisiana. How is this even a question?

North Louisiana is more pretentious than South, the Baptists will go to church then raise their nose at those that don't.
Know how you keep your Baptist buddy from drinking all your beer when you take him fishing? Bring a second Baptist.

Everything north of Bunkie is North Louisiana.

Catholic south. Baptist, Pentecostal and others north.

Northeast LA has some rich folks in it. But not like Lafayette.

This doesn’t exist in CENLA

Bay St Louis has crawfish and fried seafood and the south Louisiana lifestyle is nowhere to fricking be found. Alexandria IS NOT south Louisiana…no matter how many LSU flags and hats you see.

Born, grew up, & went to college in North Louisiana & lived in New Orleans for over a decade. It’s like two different worlds. North Louisiana is majority Protestant & South Louisiana is majority Catholic. Let’s start there. Contrary to popular belief you can get good food in North Louisiana. I can go on for hours about the differences. I love North Louisiana but if I ever move back to Louisiana I will move back to New Orleans.
Similar life for me. The two sides of the state are definitely a big difference. I'd say most of those differences are attributed to New Orlenas\Baton Rouge "big city" feel and all of North La being much smaller and way less stuff to do.
If we are comparing Morgan City to Bastrop then it's probably not much different.

North La focuses more on restaurants that serve boiled crawfish
South La focuses more on boiling there own crawfish and having crawfish boil\parties.

Absolutely not.
Unfortunately.

North Louisiana is more pretentious than South,
Its statewide. The entire state has this bizarre fascination with class, and most arent two generations removed from being dirt farmers.
One of the first things I noticed when I moved here was the lack of pretentiousness. I never realized how bad it was down there.

I've worked extensively all over every square inch of Louisiana, and many of you have had employees of my company on/near your property.
The main difference is the people above i10 don't have webbed feet for all the water.
While not a resident, the farther south you go, the more corrupt the local governments. The worst I've ever dealt with (and we deal with almost every local government we're working in across the country) is south LA, and there's not a close 2nd anywhere in the vicinty. It's an absolute hellscape dealing with those people. That's not to absolve the northern parts, they're bad too, but on many fronts, south LA is just a completely different planet than anywhere else, especially the local governments: Those people wrote the book on, "good ol' boy southern politics." That's why I always tell the throngs of LA residents that are moving to MS not to Louisiana my Mississippi with yall's putrid politics.
I see the difference between south LA and north LA being the same as all of Mississippi and the Mississippi gulf coast: Very.
And that divide is growing as more people flee to the east.

quote:Because your comment was that you couldnt find crawfish, seafood or limited boudin in Cenla or north. Just responding to your quote and comment. Now you change it to lifestyle. Which I am not sure is accurate. I have family in South La and from North La, you close your eyes and aside from accent and if there is salt in the water, you dont see a single difference in lifestyle or leisure.

We can’t get boiled shrimp or blue crabs at restaurants because people won’t eat them…it’s not worth it for the restaurants to offer it…they’ll do royal reds and crawfish, because those sell.
When you don’t live in south Louisiana there isn’t a dense enough population to support some foods. Can you get fresh boiled blue crabs, good boiled shrimp, hoghead cheese, boudin stuffed chickens…
Fried seafood is southern, not south Louisiana. Meridian MS is much different than coastal MS…but maybe not to someone from NYC…if Alexandria is Cajun to you then so be it.
