They aren’t panicked when they’ve swam to the side a 100 times.
At 12-18 months old?

That’s John Wayne swimming lesson method.

I used a kinder approach with my daughter that worked.
I just would get her to put her face in the water and blow bubbles and open her eyes.
After that I got her a little scuba mask and would get her to duck and swim around as long as she could.
She got comfortable in the water really quick, before I knew it, she was like a little minnow.

This is called ISR and it isn’t the mom. It’s a certified instructor. All of my kids have done it. The last session is in full clothes because that’s how most infant/toddler drownings occur.
It isn’t swim lessons either. It’s essentially water survival training for young children.

My Dad did the same thing to me.
To this day, I still can't swim.

If you own a pool and have kids then this is a must. Don't be a bitch!

I would call this survival skills, not swim lessons. I'm not mad at it. I imagine this exact training has saved lives.

It's not child abuse. Neither are proper spankings for that matter.

I never got into a boat with him again.
He didn't even jump in after me. One of his buddies did.

If you have a pool and toddlers and haven't done this, you are the abuser. Kids need to know how to get to the surface and float until help arrives.

Yes, let's throw people in jail for teaching children a skill that could save their lives in an emergency

bullshite. You know the concept. You may not last 10 minutes in a lake but could easily make it to the shallow end of a pool. Surely.
