I guess it's all about perspective. We have more US deaths now than those killed on 9/11. Was 9/11 overhyped and sensationalized? They are somewhat apples and oranges events, but this thing is still a huge threat to Americans and our way of life.

3000 deaths spread across a population of 350 million
The 911 death toll came from three buildings

Ironically, every response ITT, regardless of which side of it falls, has a similar number of up and down votes.
You see what you want to see on here I guess. I see plenty of opinions ranging the spectrum between the news and how you described the average OT baw on here.

There were approximately 18,000 deaths worldwide from H1N1, total. After it was all said and done. There are already 39,000 worldwide for the coronavirus and it’s not slowed down yet. Did you just make up what you said and assume no one knows how to google?
This incredibly wrong post has more up than down, for example.

Scruffy is right but there are a few exceptions. For the most part, the media is only interested in ratings and good news does not really sell while bad news can be stretched into extremes to cause panic and generate more viewers. And clearly some members of the national media have a pretty serious bias.

If the events of The Stand were literally happening right now, all of the Cletuses here would be calling it a nothing-burger.
Remember when you were saying, 'it's just 60 deaths.' Seems like only a couple of weeks ago. Oh wait...

Comparing Covid-19 deaths to the numbers of deaths on 9/11 is so eye-roll inducing that I'm now looking out the back of my own head.

CDC estimated over 250,000 deaths during the '09 H1N1 pandemic.

Man, everyone wants that drug to work. I’m so glad the FDA is allowing it to be used in the most severe cases. Economically and medically, we need a miracle to happen.

Never have seen The Stand.
Would we get to shoot people?

It's more the persecution complex conservative media constantly uses to pump people like you full of fear and anger in order to support policies that are bad for the average American.

Some people are just tired of the vocal minority on both sides. Normal people can make their own opinions.
But the people we hear screaming either believe every piece of news fed to them by completely biased sources, or force themselves to believe the opposite of what "the media" says, despite whatever evidence there may be, bc "they" can't be trusted
