Mitch, tear down the levees that were built by slave labor! A constant remembrance to that horrible time!

I will never set foot in New Orleans again.
I got plenty of options of where to spend my disposable income and NOLA is off that list, frick Mitch and the sheep that elected him. It's a real shame as we always had a great time there and loved the food and history of the city but unless things change dramatically with the political representation it will be Detroit in 5 years.

The statue removal and Mitch's hair plugs have something in common, complete waste of money...

I'm telling you this is more about one side "winning" and exerting power over another than it is about anything else. The optics of taking something down and the the cheers illustrate victory over an opponent. Its all about the power gained and what they can go after next.
This is why Lee and Beauregard must stay. They must not be empowered to spread their intolerance and oppress anyone, or thing, they don't agree with.

Because he was a racist who specifically thought that slavery was a good thing and that black people were less than human?
New Orleans is what, 60% black? Pretty easy to see why.
Lee may have tolerated slavery, and indeed used it to his advantage in times of economic need; but he was 2 days away from being the union general, so I don't think he thought of it that favorably

His tactic is to shock people so they don't look into the illegalities of the removal process. Right now, people just care about the removal itself, not how it's being done, which is illegal across the board

I'm for replacing them with actual historical figures of New Orleans.
Yes, exactly.
And if you really want to memorialize the actual Civil War history of New Orleans, you should put up a statue of Lincoln, since the North owned the city for more-or-less the entire war.

This x 1,000. But now that they've got these, they're only going to get more hysterical for more, and Mitch will do EVERYTHING in his power to ensure the rest. Then TEDN will begin fighting harder for the street names they disagree with, etc. New Orleans street names are portraits of the city's history, and markers of its growth over the years.
Better get your copies of Frenchmen Desire Good Children and older maps if someone, anyone, doesn't put an actual stop to Malcolm Suber, TEDN, John Cummings and Mitch.
What's worse, there's not a worthy candidate who is viable among the ones already mentioned: J.P. Morel, Judge Michael Bagneris, LaToya Cantrell, Judge Desirée Charbonnet, and Walt Leger III. Even a "centrist" Republican has no chance, forget a Conservative. New Orleans is doomed to four more years of this shite if not eight.

But we already have plenty of statues of Lincoln all over the country. And the actual captor of New Orleans was Admiral Farragut who also has his statues, including a very prominent one in NYC.
Speaking of NYC, I want the gilded statue of General Sherman in Central Park taken down in the middle of the night, too. Sherman burned a bunch of Southern cities, and as a Southerner, that offends me and I am having trouble sleeping at night due to the very existence of that statue. Mayor de Blasio, take down those statues of Farragut and Sherman, and do it now. Let's have some statues that reflect modern New York values and not old ones from the Civil War.

They should have wrapped it in a womans shawl since that's what he was wearing when he was captured.
...BTW, I thought fellas didn't like cross dressers, so why all the anger over a Jeff Davis statue coming down?

Their crane continues to smoke and the base hasn't moved at all.

Funny meme, but inaccurate now. Those projects are all gone, except for Calliope.

So they tore down history?
Where's the outrage for this?

Beauregard is arguably the greatest military man to come out of New Orleans. He also headed up the original Louisiana Lottery. He also spearheaded the Unification Movement after the Civil War in an ill fated effort to unite American blacks and whites. And he invented the mechanism that connects streetcars to the electric cables.

LOL this is priceless! This is why you use reputable contractors who can actually perform the work, not some fly by night jackleg, who, by the way, is way overcharging the City, or should I say undisclosed private donor, for this work.

I should mention Fort Sumter as well. All those flags and flag poles came down as well.

No. Destroying one statue is no reason to destroy another. I am about as ardent a supporter of keeping all statues as you'll find. History should never be erased.
