should I throw away my PTEC credits and pursue Instrumentation?

Although you may not NEED both, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to have both. I finished PTEC school then instrumentation 6 months after that, all while working full time with two kids

I can basically pick my next job where I’m at

but I have a strong desire to work offshore, mainly because of the similar scheduling (i.e. 14/14, 28/28)

As for offshore, some of the drilling rigs work, 14/7. Platforms some work 14/14 or 7/7.

I was talking with a friend two days ago that works a platform station.

Don’t get laid off.

If that doesn’t work, find something you actually enjoy doing and become the absolute best at it.

Can’t imagine why you got laid off

You can't imagine why he got laid off yet you celebrate and live in a society where this happens right in front of you

imagine some unemployed Lafayette housewife on Tik Tok who post 20 second videos once a week makes more than doctors make in a year. She's not even qualified to wash dishes at applebee's. Makes you really think.

Take the thought of e&i and throw that out the window unless you have years of “experience” I advise you to continue with the p tech degree and try to find a job as an operator in the plants. Way more operators than there are E&I guys. I have a degree in E&I in my safe collecting dust because they want you to have “experience” how do you get it….? Work 13&1 for a few years well piss on that. So I went into operations for the past 6 years until my plant decided to shutdown.

Sounds like you don’t want to work in a physically aggressive plant.

You start with Triad or ISC and do projects untill you get into maintenance roles. Not hard to figure out.

No shite it’s not hard to figure out. The hard part is working 13&1 with meth heads all day until you get into the maintenance roll.
