the one time I had a stone (2010) my primary physician (who was also working ER at the time) told me to drink lots of beer. didn't do it.
Teh morning the attack happened I went to our local ER, they diagnosed it and sent me home with meds.
After a few days and no urine output, my Dr. told me to come to his ER, catheterized and a Clonopin/ Morphine cocktail.
Urologist Finally went in and got the thing out (small, near the bladder) and put a stent in.
Taking the stent out was relatively painless. Dr. gave me a percocet and valium to take just beforehand. Was very chill when the assistant took it out.
really no pain. Sometimes I still have the feeling the stent is still in, though. A weird sensation. the stent was about the diameter of the lead in a std pencil.

Also get a Toradol script. It helps a LOT.
Toradol and Flomax and you'll never know it even passed.
I've had 3, and they suck arse, but those two drugs in combo make it much easier to deal with.
Good luck.

Toradol is what actually works.
Painkillers do not help, but they at least make the entire process slightly tolerable.

Hopefully one of the medications that they gave you was Flomax which will help you pass it easier. Other than that, just non-stop water to flush it out.
Was gonna suggest Flomax too. That and a beer or two.

Lots of real cranberry juice can help as a preventive.

Clean your bathroom floors. There's a good chance you'll be laying there in the fetal position at some point.
