I guess LA could have hundreds of plows and millions of pounds of salt just sitting around for years, right?
They could store that shite in the pastures with the Katrina trailers

LA DOTD dropped the ball.
JBE is in charge of DOTD. Where is he? All he had to do was tell them to get what they need to open roads. Call oin contractors from the North to bring equipment to help DOTD.
Sad that JBE has no idea what to do besides tell people to wear a mask even though 90% of people wear masks that do not work.

We knew this was coming a week in advance despite what people say. We should have rented plows from unaffected states.
Which northern states are renting out plows to the south in February?

Can confirm...drove from Nola to Dallas today. Not a bad drive at all until the shite show in Shreveport. Didn't even really make sense. As soon as I hit the TX state line, 85mph the whole way to Dallas.
Going back to Dallas from anywhere in La always makes me reaffirm my decision to move.

I mean to be fair they've been dropping the ball for decades.
I think they would have to pick up the ball ("get on the ball?") in order to even be able to drop it, right?

All the bankers, electricians, burger flippers, coaches and know it alls and Monday morning quarterbacks. The DOTD doesnt have neccesary equipment for these type of events. Borrow from states? You do realize half the country is using their equipmemt? A blade on front of truck? Will NOT ELIMINATE ICE maybe push snow. Funding? State hasnt had a gas tax increase since 1986? Do your professions operate with the same budgets as 1986? All of you so called republicans bitching are getting the fruit of your sorry Bobby JJindal.Jindal issued 19,000 contracts per year totaling 5-7 BBBBBILION on ignorant stuff like 150,000 to teach mexicans how to use seatbelts in Rapides parish, 100,000 to teach highschoolers about careers in the fashion industry. 10k in st tammany for a lrimate study, 10 mil up front and 278k a month to install gps units and monitoring to an Arizona company still paid to date, in which the parent company donated to his presidential run. All along smearing state employees reoutation to the public telling the public the $11r man with the shovel in his hand is the financial burden to the state. Or maybe some of you are the ones That gave Trump a pass on the pandemic "natural disaster" well were did this ice come from? This is a small example of what is to come. The TAX PAYER CANT AFFORD TO CONTRACT ALL OPERATIONS OUT and they expect an agency to continue on 1986 budgeting. Maybe some of you should invest in a private helicopter. Nothing wrong with constructive crtisim, but dont talk out of your arse

Ok here was the problem: Idiot drivers that thought they could conquer I20. They got stuck and had to wait for help. That reason was why it took so long to open I20. Troopers and tow companies had to go car by car and help them get unstuck. Once they did that, then they could spread salt and reopen.

Uncle Bill Gates. He's throwing money around here lately, you just tell him it's for the purpose of saving the world.

I thought it was an 18 wheeler that overturned on the Red River bridge and the extreme icy conditions on the bridge disallowed them from being able to remove it right away?

They still haven't poked holes in the dam they creatd on I-12 from Denham Springs to Oneal. This was not only blocking the flow of water but it was a safety issue for emergency personnel. It seems like that would be an easy fix, yet here we are 4.5 years later.
They aren’t going to. That would be an admission of guilt.

Who do we blame for the record snow/ice/rain/tonrando/ hurricane?
Stop crying. I'm not blaming anyone for the snow/ice storm nor am I blaming anyone for icy and closed roads. I'm criticizing the DOTD for not having an answer to clear roads that cause commuters to sit in dead traffic for 18 hours. This happened in multiple locations over multiple days on I20. This was not one isolated incident.Delays were inevitable but sitting in one spot on I20 (backed up for miles and miles) for 18 hours requires answers.

Plow ice in all of I-20? Brilliant!! Some folks can't even get out of their driveway. Stay inside until it's safe.

LA DOTD has been getting the funding shaft for years. There’s not much they can do when the state government consistently guts their budget
How long have you been working there?
DOTD, like the entire state, is getting eaten alive having to pay retirement for all it’s past employees. That’s what happens when you’re over staffed and bloated for years. And if all those lazy fricks had done their jobs while they were working, our roads would be in better shape today.
Texas, like Florida, actually maintains their roads as well as actually completing projects within reasonable time frames. DOTD has never done either cause they’re the typical state run black hole of waste, mismanagement, and bloat.

They've been working on I-20 between Shreveport and Ruston for 30 years, you would think it had heaters in it by now.
Where's Biden ?

Louisiana has more miles of elevated highways than any state...elevated concrete equals ice, ice doesnt equal snow plow for those in Rio linda.

I will say. I do think the state of Louisiana at least in the north should have a few plows ready to go. Not purpose built plows. Just the ones that go on 1 ton and larger trucks.
Louisiana should likely also have 2-3 salt storage domes in the north.
Our state produces the most salt in the US. Surely we can get salt.
