I often wonder why our roads can't get paved so we can get to work and keep the economy going.

NOLA does not respond to FOIA requests, in general. They'll slow walk, deny for reasons like "request is too broad" or simply ignore the requests. Sure, sometimes they are compelled by the court, but most making FOIA requests simply haven't the time or money to pursue the information.

If NOLA is sued and loses in court, they simply don't pay. There are millions of unpaid judgements against NOLA. Unsurprisingly, certain judgements are paid timely to certain favored politician's family members.

Not so much the payout but that discovery will involve exploring how federal grants were spent. All of it will then be an open book with a new US attorney probably watching intently. Misspending federal money can lead to some serious criminal charges.

NOLA definitely isn’t worried about the pay out as they simply wont make it.

add it to the list of judgements they currently have no intention of paying

if someone is interested, all that is public record. Seriously.

The feds give you a grant. Guess what? You have to spell out in your grant application for how the money will be used. Then you have to file reports. If you don't comply with the terms of the grant, then the feds can make you repay it as they did Jackson 10 years ago.

Those grants, grant applitcations, grant award letters, etc are all FOIA available.

Do these same standards and process apply to taxpayer funds sent to far away countries as aid or for military support? Serious question. And what level of proof do they have to provide that the funds were spent as they tell us they were?

Is this where an accepted settlement offer ends all discovery?
