Everything wrong with children is a direct result of our crap parenting. We make our kids lazy, stoopid and racist. None are born that way.

I loved it when my mom left me at home. Didn't happen often, but when she did I liked it

Sounds like your bigger problem is that your wife wears the pants in the relationship

I started leaving mine at home for short periods at 7, if I had to run to the grocery store or something.

When he was 9 he said frick afterschool care and stayed home alone from 3:00 pm until I got home at 4:30. He has a cell phone though

At 12, I rode the bus home, and stayed by myself until my folks came home form work. I swear this made me into an introvert. I would come home, get a snack, and watch Duck Tales. Good times.

You've got about 6 years before you really need to start worrying.

What's odd about this situation is I never worry about anything. I'm always a go with the flow type of guy. Thanks everyone for your responses.

Edit: To be clear, I'm not really worried a ton about this either. Just wanted opinions.

I was walking to a playing card store by myself at age 9/10. Helicopter parents have ruined an entire generation of kids.

we'll leave our 10 and 8 year old if my wife and i are going to miss each other on getting home vs leaving. it's never been more than 20 minutes though. i'm pretty sure in the next year it will be more and more.

my oldest i could have left at home when he was 5 and he'd have been fine. my 8 year old has started a fire when i'm upstairs for work.

10 was the magic age where I could stay home alone while the rest of the family was out at night. Also the age when I could take off on my bike without saying where I was going.

I was looking after smaller kids on my own at 11 or 12.

We don't have an alarm, but there are plenty of guns in the house, so the kids should be ok.

We'll leave our 8 year old for probably an hour at max. But we set the alarm, and she one of those Gizmo Gadget watches that she can call us if something is wrong.
